2025-04-21 20:28:07 +0000 UTCHi I'm a nurse. Yall nailed this one! But just wanted to clarify, a bone mineral density scan sounds made up. But it's not! It is a test used to measure the amount of calcium and other minerals present the skeletal system, and helps us diagnose conditions like osteoporosis or need for extra supplementation in older people (or post menopausal women), and to monitor the effects of some treatments that can cause bone loss, like certain chemotherapy and such. It's pretty common for younger than normal patients in LA to need these tests because of eating disorders actually. Not getting enough nutrition can cause long term bone loss. But it IS fucked up that these wealthy people can just... Get one whenever they want. It has a specific purpose and shouldn't be done just for the hell of it.
