Katy seems like a “trusted source” kind of belief structurist rather than someone who does a lot of research or has a strict dogma through which she interprets the world. Honestly I think most people are like this, and a lot of it comes down to what community you live in, often rural vs urban. She’s spending a lot of time around people with different beliefs from her, and she has talked a few times about how these people are nice and have helped her adapt to her new environment. To me it makes sense that she would feel defensive for their beliefs because that’s just kind of how a certain type of very community-based person is. We should find effective ways to communicate why it’s not true directly to her instead of snark or tell her to research or shame. She has said several times that her neighbors have felt shamed and ostracized from society and they don’t understand why (despite all of us knowing why and thinking it’s pretty simple), and I think it’s not outside the realm of possibility the Katy could feel that way as well. I would not be surprised if we see a stronger swing in beliefs from her in the future.
