2024-06-05 17:29:39 +0000 UTCHere we have speeding cameras on the road, you get a letter with a very unattractive picture of you looking bored behind the wheel and information on how fast you were going, when and where, and what sum you have to pay to what account to settle this. Germany just kills all of the fun with its bureaucracy... at least, this is an area where I'm very happy with the boring bureaucratic alternative!

I walk a lot and nothing scares me more than being passed by a cop with its siren on. I usually turn down a different road or get myself behind something solid.

2024-06-04 23:33:39 +0000 UTCI gotta say, as a lifelong Hawaii resident, I really appreciate that whenever my tiny state is mentioned on SMN, there is always an obvious attempt to separate the counties we have here, which is something very very few out of state journalistic and news sources choose to do. For example, most people would hear“HPD” and assume “Hawaii police department “ but you made the distinction of that being Honolulu Police Department. Which is a very important thing as the differences in crime statistics from Honolulu to the other islands is… vast. Using Honolulu as a metric for all of Hawaii would be like using Oakland as a metric for all of California. *this is not to say my local police department, on Maui, is without massive fault. Looking at you officer Saffeels, who is doing time for offering to let female drivers out of tickets in exchange for sex.

2024-06-04 14:32:01 +0000 UTCOne time the cops knocked on our door and my brother went to answer it. As soon as he was at the door, they knocked it in with one of those massive poles. My brother was thrown back, hit his head, and my dad stood up. We were all in the living room. I remember the dog was going crazy as they held my screaming dad down on the floor while they searched and raided the house. They didn't find anything. Know why? They had the wrong house. I was really young but I will always remember it. My dog hated anyone with ball caps after that.
