As a history teacher, the part where they mentioned historians having a greater idea of context really got me. It’s frustrating that people with actual knowledge on trends throughout history are being discounted by people who just happen to be louder and more violent.

None of Biden's words or actions are supposed to be questioned so long as we're "saving" democracy from Trump. 🙄🫤

2024-05-06 14:45:32 +0000 UTCNone of this is to justify the police raids on students who definitely belong there, nor to imply that the content of the protests is not at least part of the disproportionateness of the response, but: another angle as to why this is being treated with such harsh measures is its coincidence with commencement season, which universities also use as a way to lure donors in. Again, none of this makes it any better or less fucked up, but it does make sense that increasingly disconnected (from academic life) administrators would over react when seeing one of the major events of their year threatened.
