Why Are Modern Blockbusters So... Not Very Good? – EARLY ACCESS, AD-FREE, AND UNCENSORED

Hi. In today's episode, we look at modern blockbuster filmmaking, excessive CGI, the power producers have over the artistic process, and why studios need nearly all their movies to make $1 billion.

EXOR-SWIFT?!?!?! On Friday the 13th?!?! Ok, now I’m REEEALLLY mad! Where’s my kerosene? If they need properties to re-tread, The Apple, Reform School Girls and The Warriors are RIGHT THERE.

Obviously, you all are pretty intimately familiar with Hollywood, but as someone who basically all but gave up on their dreams of filmmaking, after realizing it is nearly impossible to support yourself on your own (especially if you have a disability), I’m really thankful that you made this video. CGI does not equal bad and you did a great job of explaining the specific pipeline changes that have occurred within the past decades that have caused VFX houses to have retention issues, leaving junior and senior roles being juggled by a handful of industry veterans. Most people won’t be in the industry for more than a couple of years because it is not sustainable due to overwhelming schedules, short turnarounds, last minute changes, and (often) getting paid per shot rather than per hour. These are artists who are at the top of their craft, just looking at their portfolios will show incredible caliber work that will not get to be seen because of turn around times and bidding on shots. The art form in its current state is not sustainable and I’m glad to see people trying to explain to the general public how hyper capitalism has plagued the industry rather heinously in the recent years and have bled the labor force dry. Thank you.

Watching this video I realised why the only way I would watch the new star wars trilogy was in the giant 4D theatre.

A Dave and Tom episode! Depressing that the state of blockbusters have gotten even worse since when Dave and (TikTok superstar) Jason Pargin made their epic, 4 pt, 8+ hour podcast series on why Modern Blockbusters Bore (support Gamefully Unemployed!).

October 10th, 2023 - Cody releases a showdy that settles the debate about which Mario Bros movie is the best movie and pointing out the need for a better home media market. October 12th, 2023 - Umbrella Entertainment announces we will finally have a 4K home release of same said Mario Bros movie. Coincidence? I think not! Cody, if you are taking requests, I really think 2000's The Cell would look really good in 4K as well. Can we get that next?

Taking advantage of creatives desire to make things really hit hard. Perfect episode!

Talking about trailers, I dig my local theater. They only play a couple of trailers, and only for the few movies they are going to play on their two screens (aka, not a lot). Since they often play old movies, you'll, say, go see John Wick 4 and get a trailer for Gremlins. Also, they have a bar and a really good kitchen, so I can get dinner and a drink.

How’s Dr. Professor Scott Bug doing these days? That dude was fun Also it goes without saying but fantastic episode as always lads!

The first movie of a series is made by the director; the second by the producer; and the third by the accountant

Whenever the strikes come up I can hear my father saying "If they don't like thier jobs they can just go work somewhere else." Drives me nuts, thank you for breaking this down and explaining why it matters.
