Hi. In today's episode, we look at the false narrative surrounding police "defunding" and crime, and investigate what cops have really been up to since the summer of 2020.

I'll take a buddy rub thanks Cody!

(There are a few exceptions. The Jordan Peterson Patreon episode has longer clips of JP... which might be a positive or a negative depending on how you think about it.)

For most episodes, there's no additional footage. Being uncensored and ad-free are the major differences.

As a “producer” on this show, I wish I could donate more than I do (but alas, I too am poor) for these super deep dives into the news.

The Big Shakuna

Do these have any extra stuff in them or is it that the swears or not beeped out? Because i like watching on youtube because the ads are funny and i want to give you any benefits you can get from another view.

Joe Fort

Good show, cody et al. You mentioned a discord, but no link. Where would that be?

quicksilver40

Hey Showdy, just wanted to say that I subed this one and only month @$5, just because, I'm poor as shit, but I feel I owe you something. You're doing good work. Go harder! Don't give up! No matter how depressing this shit is. Make it funny where you can. We love you.

Everyone needs to follow Reichwingwatch on Instagram.

Lots of good points about Austin, one thing to add is that the oversight act that passed with a 70%+ approval would probably have been higher if they didn't add another initiative to the same ballot, with the same name, with the opposite purpose. https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/whos-the-group-behind-the-other-austin-police-oversight-act/

Wait... Is this one of the causes of the boar invasion??

Steven Smith

I wouldn't say ACAB if it weren't for the fact that "good" cops never seem to be able to stop bad cops. Alas.

Steven Smith

might have lost the whole script but now to start over stronger!

Robert Driggers

Grizzled, even.

(Sorry about the repeated new comments; I fail badly at tech.) Even property crime is selectively investigated, mostly only to provide reports that can be used for insurance claims, which means it may as well be legal to steal from people without large homeowners' policies. My point here is that the cops aren't even doing what everyone agrees they should be doing, which is actually investigating real crimes. We will always need some system to restrain people who rape, rob, and kill, but at the moment we really don't have that system.

Karen Cox

Rape remains a horrifically underreported and prosecuted crime because unless the victim is a pretty blonde virgin or a nun, the cops don't take the report seriously. Rape kits get lost, witness statements unrecorded, and so the rapists never get punished. If the victim is a sex worker or trans or gay or even a blonde virgin who knew her assailant but also had a measurable blood alcohol the presumption is that the victim deserved what happened.

Karen Cox

One of the big problems with our current model of policing is that when people from marginalized groups -- read that 'Black' -- people call the cops about crime they see in their neighborhoods, the cops don't respond or respond TO THE CALLER. It isn't simply a matter of excessive cop violence, it's also that the cops ignore crime in certain neighborhoods and then assume everyone in that neighborhood is a criminal, which then leads to the cops beating the people from that neighborhood if they have the unmitigated gall to go, say, to the nice mall or grocery store in a different -- read white -- neighborhood.

Karen Cox

Was not ready for a Leftover Crack reference. Kudos to whoever got that in.

in sane countries police disengages when a suspect starts speeding away in a car to catch them when they stop somewhere else... car chases place everyone in the vicinity in unecessary danger after all you dont have a police force... you have an occupying paramilitary force... maybe it is way past time to kick them out

Great episode!

Hannah

Waiwaiwaiwait... they don't even have to report deaths? Wtf?! How what? Idk why I thought that they'd have to? *continues watching, while smoldering-mad*
