I was just thinking how weird the idea of the Supreme Court is. We've got a very small group of people with lifetime appointments who pretty much get final say over the nation. Ever see a movie that depicted a society with a high council with that kind of power? Usually they are straight up evil, sometimes just ineffective. Like, the plot of the movie usually involves our protagonist railing against them because they are wrong. This is not an invitation for "well, in [movie X] the council is good" - my point is we've been warning ourselves about this very situation for decades.
