So, here's my theory. Let's just make a new motion on the floor for something called the Bribery Bill. Basically how it works is that each Republican will have a conversation with someone where they are told "We know that you have a price, we know that you desperately need to grift or you'll die, so what's the number. Give us the number of dollars that it will take to make you stop actively destroying the welfare of the world." Just show it on a public forum and offer to give them as much money as they want and if they don't want to say it on camera, they have to say that they'll support the climate change initiatives because it's the right thing to do. And I don't care if that's the option they pick. I WANT them to take the bribery option. Joe Biden just gave 4 billion dollars to Ukraine to defend it against Russia and I'm certain that it would take WAY less than that to just make every sitting Republican politician retire if they were given just a flat million dollars. Publicly bribe the shit out of them and let them go home and stop making the world worse.

2022-05-09 02:34:45 +0000 UTCDavid has some quite liberal tunnel vision conceptions of what is "left" in the US with his language of "partisanship" and acting as if the liberal democratic party has anything to do with socialism. I know there are plenty of leftists who still support the dems thinking they're the only option, and plenty of Dem voters who are further left than their leaders- but the old ppl in power in the party that was directly discussed? Those people aren't going anywhere, and they're not going anywhere left for damn sure. There were so many moments when the conversation came so close to these conclusions as the conditions were discussed (including understanding the ratchet effect of begging Manchin for things and then being hung out to dry), but never mentioned organizing outside of electoralism. Unless y'all have some airtight 12-step program to eliminate the neoliberal power brokers of the Dem party this all sounds like frustration and handwringing with no purpose because the framework of two bourgeois parties is assumed as all that's possible. I did appreciate his climate change analysis though.
