Where I work, I'm one of the "emergency essential" employees, so I'm typically in/out of work most days. With the rest of unit members at "minimum essential manning - minus" we are shooting for 5-10% of the command heading in every day... So no real impacts to me, but... A lot of the others are/were trapped at home. At least the responsible types that follow orders... In the community at large - where I am everyone else has appeared to have made this into a long term vacation from work... So, everyone seems to be out and about like it's some kind of fricken long holiday weekend. Fortunately the cases here are limited... We'll see though. For my part, considering I'm out in the world anyway, I've tried to help others that can't go out by doing things for them they need to get done and help them avoid the risks of contracting SARS-CoV-2, especially someone that's got family at home that's "at risk." I also found out that you can buy hospital and first responders a pizza from Little Caesars... So I do that now... As for people helping me out? I think all I really want is what I get from the people I DON'T see: the people that take this seriously and have stayed home - or do venture out but wear a mask and keep their distance. They are not going to be making me sick and I really appreciate it - especially when the community here views this disease as some kind of conspiracy...

2020-05-27 19:11:58 +0000 UTCWhile I haven't had any significant events insofar, one thing that I do is keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer on my key chain. Whenever I need to head out for an essential trip, I always make it a point to offer hand sanitizer to everyone who comes within talking distance. "Excuse me, would you like some hand sanitizer?" I'd say about 20%-30% of the people to whom I make the offer take me up on it. So while it's not much, every little bit helps. :)
