2019-08-11 23:13:42 +0000 UTCAside from the insidious implication that we should be spying on citizens in order to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, the whole argument that mental illness is connected to gun violence has as much correlation as the video game argument. It's entirely a misdirect and it further stigmatizes mental illness. Further stigmatization makes the mentally more afraid to seek help. Not getting help means they get worse. Getting worse often leads to suicide. I mean, this is a vicious cycle for some of the most vulnerable people. And, whether you count suicide in this statistic or not, the mentally ill are FAR more likely to be at the end of the barrel than behind the trigger.
