My Book Club babies! The time has come!
Added 2019-01-11 19:54:09 +0000 UTCBy now we should all hopefully be done reading How Are You Going To Save Yourself and I am ready to hear your questions! What themes resonated most with you? Who were your favorite characters? What parts stuck with you most? What made you laugh? What parts made you cry? What made you groan in horror? What were your general takeaways? Did you learn anything? Or what criticisms do you have? DID YOU LIKE IT? Literally anything you want to share, I want to hear!

Totally understand. This was a weird one and I don't think many people finished it either. It was hard for me to finish, myself! I was excited for how this would challenge us but am going to figure out a better way of choosing these in the future.

2019-01-20 00:25:19 +0000 UTCI'm only about 60% of the way through the book, so perhaps I'll feel different by the time I've finished it, but I've been having some trouble with this one. For one, a bunch of the slang is unfamiliar to me, which makes the scenes with dialog (and a bit of the rest of it) hard to follow. For two, the protagonists really aren't. So far, they aren't antagonists either, so maybe I'm just used to a different type of narrative flow, but following around a few rapists who cling to each other and their weird misogynistic banter (stemming from similar feelings, likely) to their own detriment (e.g. wasting money to impress each other)... honestly, it doesn't draw me in. I could see this book being used by my conservative, racist grandmother (presently deceased) to reinforce her views on minorities. I'm not seeing much redeeming in the characters, but maybe the last 40% of the book is one where the characters 'save [themselves]' somehow? I'd be surprised, but it doesn't take many pages for an ending to twist.
