An Update, a Podcast
Added 2018-07-18 08:49:36 +0000 UTCSecret patrons, here is the podcast we'll be posting tomorrow. I'm trying to be better about getting things to you early and before it goes public, even if it's at 2am.
And a quick update on the show, there will still be one this week, of course! What happened was I wrote 42 minutes about the Good President and his Normal Movement and how he and it are Definitely Fascist, because I wanted all of the information to be in one video in one place and be able to reference related points throughout it. But at the same time after watching it, it feels long, and I worry about the last half not being seen by people even though there's what I think is important stuff in there. So we're cutting it into two parts, and if you're into previews, Part One is mostly about the ideas and emotions and reactions that emerge in fascist movements and how hey look they're exactly like our president and his supporters, and part two is more about the people and mechanisms that aid movements and how hey look they're exactly like our president and his supporters. There are through-lines that connect the two halves, and I wonder how they will play or if they're be clear cut into two parts.
Anyway. we're filming new intros/outros tomorrow, so I hope everyone is okay being a bit patient with the occasionally inconsistent release schedule. Just want to make the best thing. And hey, extra video. We will be taking a short hiatus after this because I need some time not thinking about the news or history or the good president. But we'll still be doing the podcast and we'll continue to have videos come out, because we're also shooting a bunch of standalone deep dives tomorrow, written by some old coworkers and current friends. And if you're still into previews, boars.
We'll hopefully be doing some more and more stuff like this with more videos coming out more regularly as we grow. I can't thank you enough for supporting this show and letting this happen and sticking around and being so cute.

I completely agree that the America First is nothing new - in the US or any country, because what country is not putting itself first? And the idea that US political leaders are somehow putting other countries before their own is patently absurd. It's similar to what Sanders and leftists say, except they differentiate between leaders putting their "country" first (which is a nationalist approach) and putting MNCs first. In the former, you get a country v. country approach because the nation is some amorphous whole that is being attacked, while the latter is a worker/consumer v. MNC approach (which more accurately reflects the problem in my opinion). As an American with a low (and sinking) bar for political leaders, I'm curious why you are embarrassed with Trudeau? Genuinely curious, I'm a bit too involved with US politics to do any deep dives into Canadian politics.

First of all when Trump declared this earth-shattering new concept of "America First!" we (the entire rest of the world) had this spontaneous, simultaneous reaction --- *oh really*? As in: SINCE WHEN has America not ever been about "America First"?! Second smaller thing - we love the show, we love the conversation & the reporting - but again, it's just a rehash of this age-old theme of "Americans obsessed about America". I would never dream of asking you folks to change a single thing - but it really is not much different, honestly, from what the rest of the Americans are talking about. Slightly different content, but exact same topic. Speaking strictly as an outside perspective. No judgment whatsoever (I mean, whatever, us Canadians, have you heard, we elected Trudeau?! Each and every morning, I wake up, just embarrassed at what we had done!)

Like if you usually released on Wednesdays I wouldn't want you to rush one week just to make that deadline when you could just release on Thursday or Friday instead. It's a pleasant surprise whenever I get the notification no matter the day so do what you need to do! Love you guys.
