Maybe she was just activating her glyphs with the staff, considering the only spells we see her use with it are all the types of magic we've seen her learn. That is what she does to the portal, after all.

2020-08-30 16:39:22 +0000 UTCit makes sense she could use the staff for magic, she did the same with the wand in Adventures in the Elements I also thought she was using magic with her hands when fighting Emperor Belos, immediately went back 5 seconds to rewatch that, she's become really good with using her paper glyphs, she's much faster in using them glad Luz managed to at least delay whatever plan Emperor Belos has I'm not sure you got these, but Lilith thought the curse would only last a day and Emperor Belos said he wasn't going to invade the human world, called that "boorish"
