There are very few anime that I will say I've carried with me over time, both versions of Full Metal Alchemist and maybe Hunter X Hunter. Both probably for the same reason, after having my mother die when I was 19 and my stepfather take all her money illegally by using his political position left me high and dry without anyone to help me through my depression and from many other pitfalls I learned that there are very few people who care if you live or die, and those that care are few and far between.

A look at what happened to the characters in the future is nice, though admittedly in some series that can be a problem or just something they can't do. (A problematic one would be the epilogue for Dragon Ball Z as they introduced a series that takes place before the epilogue and one they couldn't really do an epilogue for would be Hunter X Hunter as it teases the next storyline at the end, even though the manga is very very slow in covering it.)
