When I say that cosplay work is not only roses, I mean there's much work and sweat involved to bring a character to life! XD Today I'm going to talk about the proccess of making Akali! I believe this was one of my most challenging projects until now (mostly because of the Wig styling) and I'm going to share some tidbits of my ups & downs for this project today!
Well, when the clip was released and all the visuals for the girls shown. I Thought: "Damn! Akali has the most difficult and crazy hairstyle, Gotta do her cosplay!" In the first images I thought that her hair was Blonde with dark blue stripes, HOWEVER, while I was working on it, later images were posted where most of her hair was dark blue with blonde stripes....this has thrown some cold water in my ideas right from the start because I've bought a Blonde Wig, so...making long story short, I had to redo all the wig and give more space for the blue Hair Locks that I had and cut the blonde parts to "glue" on the overall structure!
Meanwhile, I've used all the cuts for both colors to start doing the Ponytail! I knew It should be volumous, so before the styling I've made a Frizz on this part to make it easier to do the spikes, and as you can see, there's a little screw on the back of the structure which was used to "attach" the ponytail to overall structure. To finish this first part I've added some glue to make a "Helmet" which was easier to put on my head and also blend everything together! After all these steps were done, the last one was styling and making the spikes! I've done it with Hair wax and Hair Spray!
Right after I finished working on it I've put the cosplay and done some pics, but I've noticed some problems. The first one was that the Ponytail was too high...and heavy as well...thus It was quite hard to keep it fixed...it was always falling from my head! But since I had the cosplay done and it was much work I've taken some pictures and did a first release with those cool graphics I've shared before with you! So I used the graphic design on my side to produce some material with it too!
But since I've wanted to do the proper way, I went back to the project table and corrected the problems! Cut A LOT of volume from the Ponytail and put that screw down a bit so the positioning of the Ponytail was more pleasant look. At the same time I was thinking on some ideas to make a nice BG for my newer pics! So, I thought about a Light Triangle! which was made with 3 Blue led light cylinders properly connected and united by duck tape (which was removed later on in post production for the final pics) and pvc parts to make the form looks great.
After all this work, the second round of photos were taken and I'm very satisfied with the results! Going through this was really a challenge but I've learned many new skills and techniques for future projects~ and I just know they are going to release a new KDA Akali Outfit! Gotta be ready when they do!! orz
Wow, this was a big text for sure! If you're still reading this till the end! THANK YOU! I've tried to shorten the story a bit, but this was really an odyssey lol! Anyways! I hope you liked to read a bit more about this project!
So that's it! I'll be working to bring the final photos as fast as possible to all of you and be prepared for the halloween next month because it will be AWESOME! I can't wait for this! ❤
