New Invention

Dr. Maya Hassan, a brilliant yet quirky scientist, had been working tirelessly in her lab to create the ultimate hypnosis tool: the Hypno-Goggles 3000. These sleek, futuristic glasses were designed to induce deep, instant hypnosis with a single swirl of their spiraling lenses. Theoretically, they could enhance suggestibility to an unprecedented level.

Of course, before she could publish her findings, she needed to test them. That’s where her best friend and self-appointed supervisor, Jess, came in

“Alright, Maya,” Jess said, lounging on a park bench as Maya sat cross-legged on the ground, excitedly fiddling with her invention. “You’re about to become your own test subject. Sure you don’t want me to go first?”

Maya adjusted the goggles over her eyes. “Absolutely not! If this works the way I think it does, I’ll be in a deep trance in seconds. That’s why I need you to monitor me and make sure I don’t do anything too ridiculous.”

Jess smirked. “Oh, I’ll definitely make sure of that.”

Maya pressed the activation button. The spirals whirled to life, glowing hypnotically. Within moments, her focused expression softened, her lips slightly parted, and her body relaxed. Her head tilted slightly as her eyelids fluttered and then.. stillness.

Jess waved a hand in front of her. “Maya? Hellooo?”

Maya didn’t respond at first, her eyes hidden behind the still-spinning goggles. Then, in a slow, dreamy voice, she murmured “Yes... I’m listening...”

Jess grinned. It had worked! Maya was totally hypnotized!

Time for some fun.

“Okay, let’s test this out,” Jess muttered, rubbing her hands together. “Maya, I want you to stand up and take off your shoes.”

Without hesitation, Maya complied. She slipped off her shoes and set them neatly beside her on the ground, standing barefoot on the cool pavement.

Jess held back a giggle. Now for the real test.

“Maya, your shoes are still on your feet.”

Maya blinked, then looked down at her bare soles with a puzzled expression. “Huh? But… but they feel like they’re still on...”

Jess stifled a laugh. “Yep! You can see them, right?”

Maya nodded slowly, wiggling her toes as if feeling the nonexistent fabric and soles against them. “Yeah... they’re right there...” she murmured, lifting a foot and turning it slightly.

Jess could barely contain herself. “Okay, take a little walk."

Maya strolled forward confidently, completely convinced she was still wearing her shoes.

Jess clapped her hands in amusement. “Alright, now hop on one foot.”

Maya obeyed without question, still thoroughly under the spell of the goggles.

Jess grinned wickedly. “Now, let’s see if you can take them off.”

Maya bent down and reached for her imaginary shoes. Her fingers hovered uncertainly over her bare feet before grasping at thin air. A slight frown formed on her lips. “Wait… they’re stuck.”

Jess burst into laughter. “Oh no, Maya! You’ve been cursed with permanent invisible shoes!”

Maya gasped dramatically, her trance-clouded mind taking the suggestion completely seriously. “Oh no! Jess, what do I do?!” She lifted her foot and tried shaking the invisible shoes off, growing more distressed. “I can feel them, but I can’t take them off!”

Jess was crying with laughter. “Okay, okay, relax. On the count of three, they’ll disappear. One… two… three!”

Maya blinked. Her feet flexed against the ground. She wiggled her toes experimentally, then sighed in relief. “Oh, thank goodness.”

Jess wiped a tear from her eye. “Maya, this is officially the greatest invention ever.”

Maya, still under hypnosis, simply smiled dreamily. “Thank you, Jess.”

Jess chuckled and reached for the goggles' deactivation switch. “Alright, let’s bring you back.” She pressed the button, and the swirling lights faded.

Maya’s expression shifted, her awareness slowly returning. She blinked a few times, then looked around in confusion. “Huh? What happened?”

Jess crossed her arms, barely holding back her smirk. “Oh, you know… just some groundbreaking scientific discoveries.”

Maya eyed her suspiciously. “Jess… what did you do?”

Jess just grinned. “Oh, nothing. But you might want to check your shoes.”

Maya glanced down at her bare feet, then at her shoes on the ground beside her. Her eyes widened. “Wait… I wasn’t wearing them?”

Jess finally lost it, laughing so hard she doubled over.

Maya groaned, covering her face. “Oh my gosh. They worked, and you had fun at my expense, didn't you?”

Jess threw an arm around her friend’s shoulders. “Maya, you are officially the best test subject ever.”

Maya sighed but couldn’t help but laugh along. Maybe the Hypno-Goggles were a success after all. And maybe, just maybe, Jess was having way too much fun with them....
