Seth Chapter 87

Chapter 87

As soon as he pressed yes, a long screen popped up in front of him with all the options of classes he could evolve into.

He fought off his drowsiness as he looked at the options, hoping to choose one for a stat boost, so he would be able to stay awake and shake off the mana exhaustion.

You have decided to evolve your class.

You can choose from these four options:

Servant of the Void: A class that is only chosen by those who had decided to sacrifice their humanity for a greater power. By becoming a loyal servant to the void, they are able to manipulate the core essence of it, gaining the powers directly from beings ruling the void. It's a binding class, but one everyone fears. It is Agility heavy; each level grants +6 points to Agility, +3 points to Luck, and 1 free stat points to assign.

Void Knight: A class for the bravehearted warriors. Gaining access to the armour honed in the abyss itself, they are able to bring out the most offensive side of it. They can destroy whole battlefields with their power and agility, and are feared and respected by those who have fought them. If you choose it, your proficiency in most weapon mastery skills increases significantly. It is Agility and Constitution heavy; each level grants +4 points to Agility, +4 points to Constitution, and 2 free stat points to assign.

Abyssal Beastlord: An assassin class mixed with taming. Known for their love of void creatures, they make bonds and use them in battle and tracking. They are also known to have an array of support skills for their bonds and aren't known to be streamline warriors and mages. Throughout history, they tend to live in forest or caves since their bonds aren't typically allowed in most cities for their tendency to eat humans. It is Agility heavy; each level grants +5 points to Agility, +4 points to Wisdom, and 1 free stat points to assign.

Voidmaster Assassin: An unique class and pathway that only a select few dares to move towards. Like it's name, it's a master of void and known to have skills in stealth, offensive combat and even magical spells. As a class that gives all around abilities, not many are able to use it to its full strength, but those who are able to are known to be able to take on Abyssal Horrors easily. It is Agility heavy; each level grants +6 points to Agility, +3 points to Strength, and 1 free stat points to assign.

Unlike the last few times, there were four options this time and only two of them even appealed to Seth.

First of all, he crossed out a servant of the void. He was already close enough to being one with The Abyssal One and didn't need to proactively head towards there.

Just by the description, he knew that only insane people would even want to sacrifice their humanity for power. It wasn't like he didn't know there were more than enough people like that in the world, but he wasn't one of them.

For similar reasons, abyssal beastlord was also rejected because it looked completely different from what his build had been till now. Maybe, he would have been more inclined towards it if the lesser abyssal horrors weren't so ugly.

Moving on, he looked at the two options that were left.

Both were good prospects, but he wondered if choosing void knight was going to mess up with his stealth abilities. From what he had seen in the ruins, his agility skills and stats had saved him quite a few times compared to brute force.

As his eyes lingered on the last option, he selected it.

It was the best option suited for him out of all of them and also the one that seemed like the natural progression of his current class.

More screens popped up in front of him as a warm sensation filled his body, making him jerk up a bit. The mana exhaustion he felt lessened considerably as all his stats increased.

You have evolved your class Voidborne Assassin into Voidmaster Assassin! You have gained +20 in all stats for evolving your class.

You have gotten new skills!

Void Chains (Level 1): An active skill that lets you bind your opponents with chains that erupt from the ground. Consumes 100 mana to call them and 10 mana every second to maintain them.

Void Dominance (Level 1): A passive skill that gives you an aura of dominance that could make lower ranked beings fearful of you. You can turn it off and on by thinking about it.

Seth grinned at the new skills. He didn't know how useful the second one was going to, but the first one seemed perfect to hold a creature in one place.

If he had the skill during the battle with the fury, it would have been easier to plan out an attack. It constantly moving around with its axe was a big reason it seemed so invincible at the start.

It didn't matter now though as he glanced one last time at the battered body of the fury.

Picking himself up, he frowned and dusted off his clothes. His body still hurt despite ranking up and he nearly missed a step as he made his way towards Rebecca.

The after effects of using Abyssal Form hounded him, but he pushed forward, not caring too much. Reaching Rebecca, he crouched down, staring at her pale face.

She looked better than before, but was still unconscious. Her breathing was shallow and he knew it would take a while before she woke up.

Frowning, he picked her up and got her to the centre of the room and put her down. Just then, a voice called him out.

“Seth!” It was Log, holding up his leg and looking up at him and the fury on the ground. “The fury… It's—”

“Dead,” he finished up the sentence.

Seth scrambled up to him, trying to pick him up. Log seemed to have missed the whole fight, but looked better than before.

He limped and looked like he had taken a bath in blood, but he was alive. Even with all the injuries on his body, just the fact that he had made it was big.

“Just how? It was so powerful. I really thought this was the place I would end up dying,” he said, staring right up at Seth. “Since it's in the hidden part of the ruin, no bard would even write a song about me.” He laughed, but his eyes kept glancing around, his voice a bit shaky.

Seth put him down right next to Rebecca.

“I was lucky. Kept flickering here and there and attacked the arm he had left. Once it fell, it was easy as it became powerless. Nearly lost my neck, but after a few stabs to the core, it malfunctioned and fell on the ground.”

He wasn't willing to share everything and it was pretty clear that Log wasn't awake during the fight. At most, he would have seen glimpses of it.

Log's eyes looked strangely at him for a second before he nodded. “You did a good job. Thank you for saving my life.”

Seth just smiled before he moved to get the others out of the debris. Compared to Log and Rebecca, Xarth was in a much worse state.

A long cut went right through his shoulders and even his head was bleeding. There were multiple bruises on his body and his armour was broken.

Still, he was alive and his eyelids were moving.

Seth didn't know if he had drank a potion or it was just the natural regeneration ability of a beastman. He picked him up and got him to the centre.

Then, did the same with Zara and Zacky who looked comparatively better. The former had broken her arm and had passed out due to mana exhaustion while the latter was suffering from symptoms of paralysis and his leg was injured by an arrow.

Both of them were unconscious so he placed them with the others.

“They should wake up soon enough,” Seth said, slumping to the ground.

“I hope so.” Log looked at his party members with a strained face. He constantly frowned, but Seth didn't bother with him too much.

He was exhausted himself and needed rest.

Time trickled by like that and he kept an eye on the chamber, wanting to go check up around the room on the upper floor and even check up on the Weather Staff, but he simply sat, having small talk with Log.

Finally, after two hours, all of them started to slowly wake up.

“That damn mechanical bastard! I would have smashed it to bits. That damn thing broke my axe! My sweet little baby!” Xarth cursed as he picked up pieces of his axe that the fury had broken and looked at its dead body with a primal rage.

It had been half an hour since all of them had woken up and after explaining what had happened with the fury, Xarth had immediately gone around looking for his axe.

“We can get you a new one with all the gold coins here,” Zara said, picking up a small chest of gold coins in front of her chest. Her complexion looked way better now even though she was far from her best. “It would be way better.”

“Yes, and think about the fame. Once we submit the report in the guild, we would be the talk on all the floors throughout the city.” Zacky smiled, looking greedily at the gold coins.

“Shut up, you two!” Xarth barked. “My axe wasn't just a weapon. It lasted me through several battles. Heck, it saved your lives countless times too.”

As the Divers talked among themselves, Seth and Rebecca sat in the back, talking about the battle in whispers.

“You used that skill again?” She asked, glancing at his arms and legs. “Your wounds disappeared. I don't think you had another potion left.”

Knowing he didn't have anything to lie to, he accepted. “It was the only way.”

“The last time you did, you were—”

“I know, but I have more control now. I also ranked up.” He promptly changed the subject, not wanting to discuss it any further. Last time against Gideon, he had no control, but this time, it was different. “What about you?”

“I gained two levels. Close to ranking up. I think it gave you most of the experience because you were the one to defeat it in the end.”

“Yeah,” he said, his eyes looking towards the rubble where the statue had fallen. “We should check up on the Weather Staff now. I wonder if we can even use it.”

“I don't think so. Knowing the tales about the Stormweaver, I believe anyone trying will be shocked to death by the staff.”

“Good I didn't try to touch it then.”

He got up and slowly moved towards the rubble alongside Rebecca. Removing the large stones around him, he found the Weather Staff, but as he was about to pick up, a tremor shook the room.

“What was that?” Xarth's voice echoed in the chamber.

Seth turned around and looked at the door they had blasted through to enter the room. Another tremor occurred and a sinking feeling hit his heart.

“I think—”

He wasn't able to finish his sentence as tendrils shot out from outside the door. A swarm of lesser abyssal horrors suddenly entered the chamber.

Ah, fuck!

Seth frowned, his body aching as the tendril moved towards him.
