I feel like, she made Ma Dae Young, who he is. She befriended him, because his parents weren´t poor and she manipulated him from a young age, that he felt the same as her. Like the world owes him something. He felt like he was being punished (already living with consequences) and because of that, he could do, what he wanted. I am not saying, he was not a bad person, but she was a master manipulator behind him.

Before 1991, when couples divorced, the father automatically would automatically get sole custody. The mother would lose all rights to the kids and property. You see this in many kdramas that are set in that time period. Twinkling Watermelon is a good example. Remember that scene where the mom of the deaf girl was being driven away in a car against her will and both the mom and the girl were crying for each other. The culture was so patriarchal that at that time, even the paternal grandparents had more rights to the kids than the divorced mom. Because of this, moms would sometimes choose to stay in an abusive relationship to keep custody of their kids.

Great reaction as always guys! The discussion regarding the psyche of the father was very interesting. It was insightful and it was too bad that it was too late to fix things between father and son. I also love that it did not take more than 1 episode before Joon jae and Cheong talked and was honest with each other. It was pretty mature take.

that Kopiko candy during the intro discussion was perfectly timed.
