yee this is kinda the problem with casting characters that will be played at different ages.

Yeah and just for further context, she’s generally always been a well-behaved kid. Lol. I’ve known her for a long time. She doesn’t hang out with bad company and hardly ever has.
So she generally has a hard time relating to why kids misbehave or questioning authority.
So you can see that in her reactions

Lol Adorkable thinking teenagers wouldnt do bad things if their parents hit them was cute. That's definitely not how kids work, they are little goblins. Lee cooked with desensitization aspect.

One thing that was repeated this episode is that Ellie and Joel's relationship is "consensual", in the sense that despite their bond, Joel has ZERO authority over her. Joel was assigned to her and they bonded, but that never made him her guardian. Once they reach town, the home was alloted to both of them and not "Joel and his daughter". Joel literally "doesn't own anything", not even the person he's trying to control the body and life of. It's why Ellie does what she wants with her body all episode, stressing Joel's dad brain out. Lmao Even at the end, it isn't a rule that Eugene couldn't come back, that's why Ellie has the presence of mind to check if it was safe. Joel would never put Ellie at risk, so he made the unilateral decision and broke trust even though she's "not your kid, I'm your partner". So the porch convo regarding this man who singlehandedly decides the healthcare for a girl he met a year ago, it hits hard as both selfish and love. They cut a line from the game which I think would have enhanced this bit ("my life would have fucking mattered, instead of being killed by infected or rped and murdered by raiders") because it mirrored her dark line from earlier ("oh, because childhood has been such a joy for me already"). I really hope the Abby stuff is able to keep up otherwise this third season is gonna fall flat lol

I disagree, but mostly because that version of the show is fundamentally different from both the tone and reality of the world they live in. The idea that Joel and Ellie ride off and live happily ever after, no trauma to resolve, no consequences? Like, from a writing perspective, it's a less compelling story even if it's more comforting story.

The beginning convo regarding "too much stick, not enough carrot" resonated with me in a way that is too hilarious Black Church 😂😂😂😂😂

A little context to the cure. Neil Druckman has started multiple times it would have work. The reasoning is for the story that doesn’t matter because Joel doesn’t care about a cure. Even if he knew it would work 100% he was gonna choose to save Ellie.
Also I like the pause after Ellie asks about Marlene. She was her mother figure and took care of her as her mother’s friend. Joel just shot her lol.

Man this episode is a perfect example of why so many main characters have and need plot armor in stories. Joel is really the heart and soul of this story and the idea of two more seasons of ellie and abby seems like such a downgrade to me strictly based on the first 5 eps but who knows it could get better in season 3 and 4

This episode kinda cements it for me, Bella was better at the younger Ellie and the show worked best with her younger self and Joel. Grown up Ellie just ain’t cutting it, the show is rough with her.
