Ha ha I thought this was funny and it serves to show that I do read the comments even if I don’t respond

But do you see how these people are saying the same thing but one is in my opinion easier to understand

Or is it just me haha.

Anyways I just use this as an example so you guys know how to talk to someone like me who is easily confused

Can you guess which one is easier to understand ?

As a non-native english speaker, I don't get what the problem is.

Leo

What show are they talking bout? I might want to watch

CKM_Tubbs

both are right. i think in this case he wasn't using fantasy or d&d jargon, but it's absolutely true that fantasy settings tend to use latin words more because it gives a more magical and dated effect to a narration. like harry potter spells, d&d races or special moves in anime

Luke4003

As a fellow European but with a Germanic language (German *cough*) I did understand both equally as well. But that might really just be how we learn English as a second language, I would have used „constitution“ as well.

Fusssel

Hmmm... Everything is easier to understand when it is properly written, grammatically correct, and provides supporting sequential context. I'm cracking up over here at YBRL finding the nicest and sweetest method of highlighting... " Writing how you speak is nasty work." I can't stop laughing.

Especially if it’s true that it has nothing to do with gaming or fantasy and also it can be where gaming and fantasy got their terminology from

Rock Lee

Wow well you didn’t waste your time that was indeed an interesting pool of knowledge

so this is based purely on assumption that the guy speaks english as a second language so it would be cool to get his point of view. IF it is true my guess is that he is a european/latin language speaker (italian, french, spanish, portuguese...). speakers of those languages tend to use a latin-based vocabulary, in contrast to english speaker. that is why me, a fellow european, read both comments thinking "well seems easy to understand", but the big problem word is CONSTITUTION. this word basically means PHYSIQUE, but it may seems strange to a english-speaker ear. So you lee got confused and tried to interpret that word at you best possibility giving it a fantasy connotation. Nobody is in the wrong, but communication may be difficult if we starts from a different pool of words. Btw this long ass explanation is because i'm a language mediation major lol. My professor always said: "remember, in english, every concept has 2 word related to it: one comes from latin, one from germanic". European people tend to use latin derivative because resambles their own terms. The problem is that sometimes english speaker may find them strange or don't even know them. In this case the pair was CONSTITUTION/PHYSIQUE, but just think about it how every time the context is a bit more formal, the latin word is used instead. (we say the Statue of LIBERTY, not of FREEDOM. same word, but latin and germanic origin) other example are dark/obscure, holy/sacred, every tipe of meat like pig/pork, chicken/poultry ecc.. hope this digression on linguistic helped

Luke4003

Second one was going great till the cursed paranthesis

MrMeleeMushroom

ooh i think i got what/why this misunderstanding happened now. i'll try to explain down here

Luke4003

Wait this wasn’t video game fantasy jargan?

Rock Lee

Lee's turning into my 10th grade English teacher xD, but point taken, everyone please use complete sentences and proper grammar.

Alex

Both seem easy to understand to me.

s4ean

Lol Lee, i'm the same way too depending on the situation. Sometimes I can understand jargon like nobodies business, but other times i'm like "explain shit to me like i'm 5 bro" cause sometime its hard for things to click, which is understandable, and normal.

Le_Lng

oh so this is the constitution guy that you were talking about. i bet money he is european and as a english-second-language guy myself i understand why it can be hard to follow sometimes

Luke4003

I guess if you don’t watch anime and you hear mono reserves that can throw you off By now I have seen enough content or I’m expected to understand constitution and fantasy story perspectives but I’m not there yet

Rock Lee

Haha. You are right

Rock Lee

Lol. I’m telling you you gotta talk to me like I’m a child

Rock Lee

Hahah

Rock Lee

Nah the only constitution I know is the one of the United States of America for which she stands one nation under God.

FSD

True the first comment is way easy 😂😂 even a child could understand

Minah

this gotta be about anime cuz I have no idea what either of them is talking about 😭
