Oh no! Not Sortimid doing politics again!

I have a lot of thoughts on AI. I won't reiterate points many others have already made. All I'll say is I'm not worried about the technology or its adopters, but about monopolies and billionaires.

For this piece, the galaxy-in-a-jar ΑΙ design was inspired by the android Million from NORCO. NORCO is an incredible game that --if you don't mind reading-- I cannot recommend enough. It has burrowed deep inside my brain and I find myself thinking about it all the time. At the other end of the sequence, I had a lot of fun imitating AI art's "style".

I'll be sharing this publicly in a few days. It's somewhat topical, so I'd rather not keep it in the vault for too long.

Make sure to cancel your membership before the end of the year! I won't be posting new art in January, but I'll leave the Patreon open for people who want to check out the games and archive. I'll pause payments again in late January just to make sure people aren't charged unnecessarily (edit: more than once).

That's it for new art from me, for now! Hope you enjoyed this brief return. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and all the best for 2025!

Thank you!

that does help a lot I’ll have to give it a look always like games like that!

Hard to describe it better than the creators do: "NORCO is a dialogue-focused point & click adventure that immerses the player in the sinking suburbs and industrial swamplands of an increasingly surreal and distorted South Louisiana. " It's got scifi and gig work and cults and industrial swamplands all wrapped up in a Southern Gothic atmosphere. The game has impeccable vibes and touches upon a lot of current issues while not taking itself too seriously. It started as a documentary project focused on the impact of Hurricane Katrina so it has a really intimate understanding of the topics it tackles. It took me about six hours to complete, split over a few days just because it's so dense with ideas. Hope this gives you a sense of whether it's something you'd be interested in! Also, it's 60% off on Steam right now!

Thank you so much Laurel!

Sortimid

Thanks Dynamoob! The eyes gave me the most trouble so I'm glad they "work". Styling speech bubbles sometimes feels "easy" to me, but it's always effective soo..

Sortimid

Thanks! It was real nice to be back, albeit briefly! ♥

Sortimid

this is a very skillful adaptation of the kind of style AI art often comes with lol. really good work as always!! :)

Laurel

Ah shame that this comeback was so brief, but it was really nice seeing some new stuff from you again!

Wakeykun

Also side note what’s NORCO about from someone who played?

meepsalot

Good job recreating that uncanny glossiness of A.I. "art" My favorite aspects are actually the evolution of the speech bubbles and stage 3's transition of the eyes.

Dynamoob

That's a mood. Another artist I like did a few A.I posts back in June bit thankfully they stopped after a week.

Of course! I'm going to do the monthly archive, don't worry.

Sortimid

Thank youu! And same to you!

Sortimid

Thank you so much it was amazing to see stuff from you again! Have a great new year!

meepsalot

Also meant to ask. Will we get a .zip post like we did way back when or should I just download and zip everything myself?

CurrentlyEatingPies

You never know...!

Sortimid

Fuck A.I or *fuck* A.I? It's a shame you're leaving so soon but fate makes fools of us all. My commission shall wait for the day you kick into high gear again.

CurrentlyEatingPies

Oh haha! I never would! Haha, it never even occurred to me that the title could be interpreted that way 😅

Sortimid

Gotcha! Hope you comeback soon.

Jariah Synn

about making AI art. That's a giant red flag from an artist.

Shelby

About the politics?

Sortimid

I'm pausing AFTER the January charge. People who stick around will be charged for January despite there not being any new content. It's not ideal, but I feel I should leave some more time for new people who may want to sign up for the games and archive. Sadly, ever since I enabled subscription billing, I can't pause charges for existing patrons without also blocking new people from signing up. I'll make more posts warning people to cancel before the end of the year.

Sortimid

Just so i understand you're pausing before the January payment charge or after?

Jariah Synn

Don't scare me like that...
