Alice in Borderland is originally a manga, so pleeeease don't expect too much realism! It's very over the top in many parts, but if you keep your mind open, you will enjoy this show A LOT. It's one of my favorite series of all time and all 3 seasons are totally worth it!! It may be a little slow and VERY confusing, but it will take up pace and more and more questions will be answered the more you watch, so you need to watch at least 1 or 2 more episodes before you can really tell, if the series is boring or the story isn't fun or stuff like that. This episode also is kinda just a introduction to many characters that we will see throughout the season. i also think it's the most boring episode, but it is important for the characters and the whole "beach" storyline!

Same, I dropped AiB in S2 when they were doing that maze game with the naked guy. Something about the pacing felt off. Never got back into it.

ps. Chota - I definately feel like the girl was being manipulative as Seb pointed out, there's clearly some link here to religious upbringing, guilt, trauma to do with his mum being used sexually by the cult. He's a virgin and might morally find this situation as something sinful and uncomfortable. Does he feel out of control in that situation? lots to unpick there but it was definately emotional and sexual violation and his trauma is very real

For a little bit of background - Alice in Borderland was a manga series first serialization in magazines: From November 2010 to March 2015 Squid Game was a script written 2008-2009 but the script was rejected by studios for years and the series wasn't produced and released until 2021 after Netflix picked it up. The writer didn't even have a season 2 or 3 ready, it was only the popularity of the 2021 show that made him go back to the drawing board. So Alice in Borderland tries to stay true to the original manga which people already knew in Japan. TheNetflix show is not identical to the manga, but it is a relatively faithful adaptation I am told, just with some differences like new games, added characters, and expanded plotlines e.g. Three of Clubs in the manga became the "Live or Die" game in the show. So while there may be similarities between AiB and SG, they are separate completely and don't share ideas. Ben is also right in saying the AiB show is more 'anime' like because it's from a japanese manga series, so it's less grounded in reality, so you just have to imagine this world and these characters where anything is possible :D

I dropped AiB after the 1st episode of season 2. I was pushing myself to watch it because of the hype but could not get into it. Even after knowing the "twist" and reason behind the whole games, it felt silly and annoying and the characters like cardboard cutouts. While I had a LOT of problems with Squid Games, especially in the 2nd and 3rd season, it at least had some elements and some characters that I found interesting.
