1.5 Release Plan

1.5 work is well underway and is planned for near end-of-month release. The biggest things being done for 1.5 are quality improvements. 1.4 suffered a bit in quality and bug rate, and 1.5 should rectify that. Here are some of the planned quality improvements:
- faster load times
- much lower memory usage (extreme example scene that was using 20+ GB in release 1.4 now uses 6.5 GB). Target is to work within 8GB for most, if not all, scenes. Some scenes that use a lot of textures will probably go over 8GB still.
- improved overall performance - Already made some fixes that have improved performance in some areas. Unity 2017.3, however, introduced some oddities I need to try to work through to guarantee overall improvement. This paves the way to Unity 2018.1 which promises some large improvements. The beta of this release should be out soon and I'll be jumping into it as soon as possible in order to make VaM run much better.
- bug fixes affecting scene loading and initialization
- much smaller release/download size. Also coming soon (probably not this release) is an updater/patch system, which will allow finer granularity of releases, easier patching of bug fixes, update-in-place, and much smaller download sizes for updates
In addition to quality improvements, the other areas being worked on are:
- Audio 1.0
- Trigger system

I'll try to post another update next week as I get further along. Thank you all for your support! It is great to start out the new year with nearly 3000 patrons backing this project! That really ensures the future of this project. Wow!

It is probably a huge request but i wonder how difficult it would be to have a 3d drawing tool incorporated? It would let people play with creating their own small objects or shapes for scenes or other things. Just an idea. keep up the fantastic work!!! Im excited for each new patch that rolls out!!

2018-01-16 15:12:40 +0000 UTCHey Meshed, I've been with you from the beginning and have had every version so far. Loving the app and the rate of development. Keep up the good work! I have a few suggestions/requests that I haven't yet seen mentioned anywhere else. I know you have a Trello page for this, but I can't seem to work out how to post or email my suggestions to it? Anyway, here goes: Simple(r) ones first… 1) Skin flushing. This should be dynamic, and could be animated or linked to a trigger 2) A list of preset looks. Faces, hair, body and clothes. Be able to mix and match (maybe this is more of a community thing) 3) A continuation from above, be able to save a look by individual category, i.e. face, hair, body, clothes, complete etc. Could then mix and match as desired 4) A morph to close the eyes 5) The high heel shoes don’t seem to reflect properly. When viewed against a black background, even with light shining directly on them, they aren’t visible. It’s like they’re just a silhouette The next few are more ambitious, so probably way off in the future... 6) Magic Leap support (when, or if, it’s ever released!) Or other AR/MR support. It would be so cool to have the character right there in your own house! 7) Some sort of AI for walking from point to point, while avoiding objects. Also other canned actions, such as sitting on the bed, laying down, bending over etc. The user could then create infinite variations of scenes relatively easily, without the rigmarole of manually animating it all. In combination with the AR support suggested above, the character could even avoid or interact with real-world objects, like sit/lay on your own furniture! 8) Online multiplayer. Multiple people in the same room each possessing a character and/or controlling objects. I'm not sure how this would work out (or even if it’s technically possible), seeing as I suspect the vast majority of users are male so it'd be a bit weird, but I'm thinking maybe it could pave the way for women to offer a paid service to possess the other model and talk dirty etc. Obviously live audio streaming would be required as well as the movement. Would be great if it could work with full body/face motion capture. Sort of like a futuristic live webcam show (or chatline), but women who weren't brave (or attractive) enough to do real webcams could assume a virtual avatar identity instead and do this to earn some money; could be a whole new industry! The user could decide the exact look of the character and environment. Maybe there could be voice filters too, which either participant could control, the provider to hide their identity, or the consumer to get it to sound exactly how they want. The consumer could record the whole thing to play back as many times as they please (not sure how much memory this would require though) 9) Similar to above, but get some female (or male!) actors with full body/face motion capture to act out some short canned scenes with audio. Maybe some sexy dances or short scenarios. They could perhaps even then be strung together to form a full story or episode. It could be like a soap opera, but the consumer could be inside the scene, and replay it several times from different vantage points and with different setting. Heck, you could even take requests for personalised scenes (and charge a fortune for it!). I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who would pay for that. It would have good replayability because you could change the model, voice and/or environment each time. You could charge per scene or offer a subscription to access all new content as and when it's released. Or the community could even produce and release their own, although this is probably somewhat unrealistic and impractical because who has motion capture equipment lying around?! I suppose a more limited version could be achieved with the Vive trackers. The possibilities are endless! The current animation system is great, and it's way ahead of anything else out there, but it's difficult to produce anything as complex or convincingly lifelike on it as using real-life actors could achieve. Just a few things for you to add to your already enormous list of future features! Update: I just figured out how to email these to Trello (I think), so have done so. I'll leave them here anyway, just in case it didn't work correctly. Please ignore/delete the first few attempts on Trello, I have now re-done them all individually and properly.

2018-01-12 18:42:50 +0000 UTCWow cool app this is great for real time editing in VR. It would be nice to have the extra ability to scale all body parts. Currently you can make the legs and feet longer and then other parts start to look wrong and you cannot tweak to match them up. The Muscle man and Fat man morphs the head looks to small. The ability to scale the Head, body, arms, hands would be very nice to have. Also a scale on the hair to fix some clip with the head would help. Excellent work on this so far.

2018-01-09 18:04:13 +0000 UTCI have not seen that. I used to have controller support for switching tabs. I wonder if it is not completely disabled and you have an errant controller like a flight sim stick that is changing the tabs. I'll fish through the code to see if that is somehow still enabled.

The 'load scene' in 1.3 had that problem. It just kept on scrolling by itself. Entertainment Ed. Rift/Touch/Ryzen user. 1.2 runs fine for me
