Sleepyhead Aza Process + PSD

This was actually a sketch I had left sitting in my work doc for MONTHS before i finally decided to finish it and make it a christmas-themed thing. Much of the work was basically all there, it was only a matter of refining the sketch and popping off from there.

Yooooo shoutouts to returning to old projects! Always nice to finish a backburner piece.

Ultimate, thanks for the answers!

I usually factor in the base shading as a guide for how Those elements should look; I work around the shading I lay out

DoodleDox

Ahhhh I gotcha. How do you factor in other bodily effects, like hair/feather sheen, or being wet?

KijuiRa

The way your shading adds more softness to the way you already draw things like the thighs and chest does impressive work, not to mention the fact that you add squish to the belly does wonders lol

Pizza Egger

I kinda freehand it and mentally work out how light hits characters lol

DoodleDox

Do you have a light reference or model that you use for lighting, like Blender or shining a lamp on a formless figure?

KijuiRa

I usually keep in mind having a light source to guide my shading, yeah. Even for the most simple pieces

DoodleDox

Do you find yourself messing around where the comes from, or you kinda just... feel it out?

KijuiRa

Yeah a lot of the heavy lifting is done by the shading, nowadays at least lol

DoodleDox

Im assuming the optimization is in your shading, right? I noticed a few older pieces kinda use like a gradient on areas where clothing blocks lights, on top of using a dual layer in other areas where that body part isn't facing the light source.
