MAP DESCRIPTION
At first glance, the bright green grass and pale marble ruins might even seem pleasant.
But after a few steps, the truth becomes clear: bones surface everywhere.
In the mud, in the murky water, tangled among the roots breaking through the ground.
The temple, once solemn, is now almost entirely swallowed by the swamp.
Broken columns rise from the earth, tilted and weathered, while the mud creeps forward inch by inch.
Just beyond the rocky tunnel from our Hag Den Dungeon map, the clearing opens into a wide swamp dominated by an ancient monolith car ved with red runes, wrapped tightly by the massive roots of the towering tree above it.
Those markings don’t look dormant. If anything, they look expectant.
This is the kind of place where—even if you stumble in by accident—someone will still demand a fight.
Welcome to Elder Ruin Swamp.
NOTES
Map Style & Tactics: Elder Ruin Swamp is a wide, open map—perfect for fast enemies, oversized bosses, or full creature hordes. The open space allows for dynamic encounters and high-intensity battles.
The Monolith: What do the mysterious runes hide? A spell? Instructions? A warning? One way or another, the party will have to figure it out.
The Roots:The roots around the monolith—and those scattered across the clearing—may animate and attack the party… or their enemies.
Heavy Difficult Terrain: Mud, pools, and debris slow movement drastically, making positioning crucial throughout the fight.
Multiple Elevation Levels: Raised areas and collapsed platforms offer strong tactical advantages for ranged attacks or defensive positioning.
Fragile Bridges: The wooden walkways may collapse on failed checks or after taking damage, creating dynamic environmental hazards.
Active Runes: The runes on the monolith may unleash magical bursts (fear, charm, animated roots, etc.) either periodically or whenever struck.
The Water: Thick, oily, and opaque—it can hide predators of all kinds, waiting for the smallest misstep.
Crates & Remains: Ideal spots to place clues, important items, or pieces of environmental storytelling.
The Side Ruins: Another ruined structure, stern yet still elegant. Does it hide nothing but a useless crate… or something truly valuable?
The Cave: The southern cave is the entrance to the rocky tunnel featured in Hag Den Dungeon, making it the natural connection point between these maps.

With Elder Ruin Swamp, we continue our journey through the Swamp Series.
Each step forward takes us deeper into its forgotten ruins, restless creatures, and ancient magic.
This area is the perfect stage for a new confrontation… and a reminder that the swamp still has many secrets left to reveal.
