Welcome back Fellow Darkish!
The staircase suspended above the abyss seems solid, and within the cavern, the only sounds are the crackling of fire and the echo of your footsteps.
Still, you can’t shake the feeling that something, lurking in the darkness below, is watching you…

MAP DESCRIPTION
Dungeon Descent is a deep chasm of raw stone, crossed by a long and narrow stairway.
Beyond the stone archway, you find yourselves hanging over the void, with only a slender stone walkway separating you from the drop.
To reach the exit, you’ll have to cross the staircase as it zigzags over the shadowy pit, until you reach a natural crevice carved into the rock on the far side of the room.
Four hanging braziers light up the cold stone, revealing wide and deep holes in the walls.
Should anything emerge from those openings to strike while you’re crossing, things could quickly turn deadly…
NOTES
Dungeon Descent turns a simple staircase battle into a deadly hazard that demands focus and tactical thinking to survive.
Wall Openings: These dark gaps are perfect lairs for giant bats, flying or crawling monsters, hidden traps, or tunnels from which crossbow-wielding enemies might emerge. Anything could try to knock your players off the edge.
Suspended Braziers: Dropped at the right time, these can become makeshift traps—both dramatic and effective.
The Void Below: Many things could lurk in the darkness beneath the stairs: enemies climbing up the walls, secret chambers within the dungeon, or other hidden dangers. Will you dare to peer into the abyss?
Direction: The stairs might represent a descent into danger… or an ascent from a hidden passage to the outer walls of a fortress you’re trying to infiltrate. Using both directions can open up different narrative paths.

Welcome Back, Fellow Darkish!
We’re continuing our descent into the dungeon, reaching this narrow passage carved into the stone.
We initially imagined this map one way, but the more we looked at it, the more potential we saw.
We’re really happy with the quiet, evocative atmosphere of this staircase. It feels like something that could easily fit into almost any setting, and as players, we’d love to find ourselves in a moment like this.
We hope this third and final August map will inspire you as much as it inspired us.
As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts; drop us a like or leave a comment!
We wish you great adventures and NAT20s,
The Darkest Maps Team
