Forsaken Church [27x17]

Welcome back Fellow Darkish!

The old wooden boards creak under your steps, and the air around you is thick with mold and the unmistakable metallic scent of blood.

As you approach the altar, you see traces of something that makes your skin crawl: dark rituals have been performed here, and no benevolent deity is worshipped within these walls.

MAP DESCRIPTION:

Forsaken Church is a modest and simple wooden building, constructed many years ago.

The hall is well-lit by the windows and the large rose window on the wall behind the altar, but the light is pale and dirty due to the layers of dust encrusted on the glass.

Time and humidity have taken their toll on the wood, which emits a strong smell of mold and fresh earth.

Beneath these natural odors and those of wax and incense that one would expect in a church, the more peculiar scents of sulfur and blood assault your nostrils.

Beyond the pews, in front of the ceremonial altar, a disturbing symbol is deeply carved into the wooden boards, surrounded by candles and chalices filled with what appears to be blood.

Three skulls, one of which is blindfolded, likely for some ritual, are placed at the center of the ritual circle.

On the altar, a series of instruments, books, and mysterious ingredients confirm how sinister the rites held within these walls are.

Any creature or power summoned in such a manner must be evil and bloodthirsty, and you probably don’t want to be found here by its cultists.

NOTES

• Forsaken Church offers interesting encounters despite its simple structure, thanks to the different levels provided by the altar and the balcony, which add dynamism.

• Forsaken Village is the natural location for this church.

• The inhabitants of the area might be subjugated against their will, perhaps held under blackmail by the Cult or completely unaware, but an entire village of corrupted Cultists could also be interesting.

• Concealing the cult’s carvings and oddities or the smell of blood from the Villagers would require simple magic and could only be uncovered by skilled adventurers, potentially leaving the populace innocent.

• Investigating the scrolls and books could be an excellent way to understand which entities are being summoned.

• Guardians, human and otherwise, might be lurking around the church to protect its secrets.

Welcome back, Fellow Darkish, to the third and final map of the month!

For this Halloween release, we’ve decided to bring you one of the interiors of Forsaken Village, a perfect setting for any horror adventures you might experience during this spooky season!

We’ve tried to highlight and define the type of atmosphere that pervades the Forsaken areas, where even the entities worshipped are corrupted and twisted, and we hope you enjoy this kind of grimdark environment!

For those waiting for the October Poll Map, don’t worry, it’s coming soon!

We’ve decided to publish it as the first map of November due to its complexity.

You (as almost always xD) made the Dungeon win, and among the suggestions you gave us, one in particular intrigued us, and we’re working to present it to you in the best way possible!
