Reminder to all patrons pledging from the apple store, just don’t.
Added 2024-10-19 20:35:29 +0000 UTCIf you pledge through the apple app store, starting next month on Nov 1st, NEW PLEDGES, will be upcharged an extra 30%. Also i am delaying getting onto the subscription billing cycle that apple demands Patreon use. so for about a year until Nov 2025 i think this will mean no new pledges can come to this patreon from the apple store. This will have no effect on existing patrons who remain pledged even if you pledge from apple, but if you cancel and repledge it will be subject to the 30% up-charge.
Again, this won’t mean you can’t pledge, it just means you have to do so from any method other than the apple app store. Literally just search in a browser and pledge from there, even Safari will work I think, with no upcharge. Is this a stupid and pointless cash grab from Apple…
Yes, basically that’s all this is.
They aren’t offering any new services for the upcharge. In fact i don’t see Apple offering any extra benefits to anyone at all. They just decided to up the rent for patreon and screw over all of us. So yeah, for the forseeable future, until they either back off or more likely i am forced to change to the new billing cycle in a year, don’t try to pledge here from the apple app store. Don’t let them steal your money.
