World Map Hex Tiles

Hundreds of hexagonal tiles for creating world and region maps.

This ambitious asset pack was masterminded by Rootyful, and totals 444 assets in just the base pack!

This number includes hexagonal map tiles of varying biomes plus overlays of roads, rivers, forests, and cities. There are pins, banners, and other world map extras, too.

Let us know what you think of these! We would love to make more if you enjoy them. Just let us know what what else you'd like to see. :)

Thanks Emily, and glad to hear that you're enjoying them! I'm excited to return to hex tiles some time soon, and will keep your requests handy. :)

Hi! I'm using these for a hex crawl I'm planning and love the art so much. Just wanted to put a request/recommendation if you come back to this pack or add a new themed pack. I'd love to have some of the man made buildings be themed like a norse/Viking, Roman, sci fi cities, apocalypse, etc theme. Love your work!

Emily Vogel

A good idea, thanks William :)

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

These have been great. I recommend a set of basic land tiles/tree tiles, basically any terrain you've made - that gradually transitions between different colors. Like for the North of my map, I'd love a green/white transition as the forest shifts into a snowy landscape. Just an idea. Thank you!

William Goley

Not elegantly, as they won't snap to any kind of hexagonal grid unfortunately

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

can these work with wonderdraft?

thenunnceler

Where is the guide for these?

Mitch Kelley

There are tiles in the World Map Hex Tiles Pack that are not in the dungeondraft files, like the lush versions of the wetlands and the cursed versions of the forests and buildings. Will those be released in a dungeondraft file, too?

Hans_Schnitzel

I do think we'll be returning to these some time – thanks for the encouragement!

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

I absolutely love these tiles. The guide for how to use them in Dungeondraft was a lifesaver, it was very easy to use after that. I really really hope for an expansion of this set! I could use a Mesa set. Maybe even with carved out cities (styled like Petra in Jordan or the Lycian Tombs in Turkey). Aside from that, more variations of existing tile types is always welcome.

corvdb1992 .

Thanks for your feedback, Peregrin! Especially as we find ways to make these more easy to use, the chance of an expansion goes up and up...

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

I'm definitely enjoying using these to re-make my world map. My only gripe currently is the lack of variety in the mountains, I could use a few more in-between sizes and variations on the different styles. Otherwise, so far so good!

Peregrin

If you are using a VTT like roll 20 setting your Cell width to 87.5 pixels seems to fit the top of the hex tiles into a grid very nicely.

Where is the dungeon draft version of the World Map Hex Tiles PACK with the extra tiles?

Hans_Schnitzel

Totally agree with this comment. Aside from that these tiles are amazing dude.

I hear ya – I hope to revisit hex tiles and either create a tool to manage these annoyances or tweak the images themselves. Stay tuned. :)

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

Alright, looking forward to it. I do think just leaving out the bases would be a good first step, even though this does of course not solve the overlapping issues completely

Johannes Monz

Was super excited about these but quickly got frustrated. It's the 3D bit that's causing problems. If they were flat it would be fast and easy to build. But those chunky edges make it unusably clunky. I would love a version of this without the 3d tile bit, or having the 3d tile but separate so I can add it to the final tiles on the map. That would actually be LESS tedious. Love this idea, excited to see some improvements, hoping for more variety, not just new biomes, but also more variations of current biomes.

Xandr

Thanks Mathjis! We're looking into it actually, and the community's made some progress on Discord already.

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

I'm afraid they've got the be placed in order from top to bottom right now, but I hope to come up with something better for a Pt.2 :)

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

Not yet, anyway! Definitely a contender for a Pt.2

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

It would be very cool if these tiles would work with Hex Kit. It's a hex map making program with the option to add custom tiles. So maybe that's worth a try

Mathijs Verheijen

I'm really sorry to say this, but I don't understand how I am supposed to use these. Because of the bases that are present, I dont see how youre supposed to efficiently place the tiels without the bases overlapping other tiles. Is there some trick to this that I am not sseing?

Johannes Monz

Ok...I absolutely love these...so much...but...no jungle?

Charles Esque

Thank you for your excellent feedback, Felix! The cropping was *supposed* to make them easier to use by (in theory) snapping them to a square grid, but something's gone wrong along the way. I'll have to revisit that idea. I'll see what I can do about the bases too. I'll get home to my proper work PC in the middle of the month and then take a good look.

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

Right now we just have image editors like Gimp/Photoshop/Paint.net in mind, but I have some ideas for other tools. Hope you'll stay tuned. :)

Ross from 2-Minute Tabletop

This is amazing! I’m so excited to start using these for my campaign!!

Colleen Robertson

These are super cool, but after messing around with them for like 2-3 hours, I realized they're kinda fiddly to use as is and I will probably stick to my current ways of map making. The main issue is that the bottom part get in your way when tiling and you have to keep messing with the layer order when tiling them. I'd wish there was a version without these. I love the look, but probably won't use them much because of the hassle. Also, why aren't they cropped to the actual tile size? Ends up you're always clicking on some transparent part of a layer above. Managed to work around it by batch cropping, but it felt a tad clunky. And a quick asside, since it might just be an oversight: the mountain tiles are the only once that are not centered/positioned within the file like the others.

Felix Klengel

I'm curious too! Normally use dungeondraft but would like to know other programmes that can use these assets

Matt Sherwood

I was really excited to see this pack included - so versatile and broadly useful. A little repetitive to build, but this has a great variety of tiles and it'll allow for so much flexibility. Much more feasible to make regional maps for me with something like this.

Saturnine

I really like these too ! But I wonder what would be the easiest way to use them? I feel like getting the assets aligned might be tedious. I am missing some obvious tool ? I am currently using Wonderdraft to draw worldmaps (with many 2MNTT assets ;) ) and I am not sure how I could switch to these ?

Victor BRET

Omg I love this idea!

Gysdaj

I *really* love the hex map panels. I'm excited to start using those.
