New Elective Ideas?
Added 2025-03-16 09:49:33 +0000 UTCFriends,
It’s been a while since the last update of Custom University Electives, and I think it’s time to start thinking about new courses! Over time, the mod has grown to support a variety of skills, both from the game and from popular mods. But there are always new possibilities to explore.
I’d love to hear your ideas! What skills do you think should be available as university electives? Maybe a skill from a mod you love or something entirely new that would fit the game? Let me know in the comments which skills you’d like to see included.
For now, there’s no poll, but I’ll add one at the next stage once I gather enough ideas. Your feedback is always valuable and helps shape future updates! 🎓

How about maybe a nutritionist/Dietician or health specialist? Kind of like someone who would head a weightloss course geared towards healthy lifestyle. Meaning not diet but rather eat and exercise for life, eat to live instead of live to eat. Having something like this in game might inspire some to do this for real. Also maybe something like a helping hands organization, ie traveling doctors & nurses, disaster relief, aide to those in need, maybe meals delivered to elders alone, single Mom's, helping homelessness and such.

2025-03-21 16:00:18 +0000 UTCI would also like the Marksmanship skill in addition to the already implemented Archery skill.

2025-03-19 12:25:04 +0000 UTCMidnitetech's Career Skills would be great! Also the new Skills from Zero's Careers Rework.

2025-03-19 12:21:32 +0000 UTCOh do you have Triplis thinking skill? I know using your customs is how I wound up finding some of these lol

2025-03-18 19:49:02 +0000 UTCYeah, I think the careers are only ones that might but I will look in my mods folder and see :)

2025-03-18 19:43:41 +0000 UTCMany of them have already been partially or fully implemented. (Please see the link in the mod post.) I wanted to hear ideas for completely new mods with skills I might not be familiar with. I'll compile all the suggestions this weekend, review the mods, and then launch a poll to decide which new skills should ultimately be implemented.

2025-03-18 08:23:48 +0000 UTCLanguages has been updated so those electives are prob needing updated? The other skill mods are WW, Janes, Swimming, Icemun/Piper, and there's a cybersecurity career that might have skill? Same with an accounting one? HVAC? Just off shooting the things I think I have that may be skill based. But if I load up and see any I'll come back

2025-03-18 07:45:54 +0000 UTCthe small business course would be something like an entrepreneurship class. were sims could learn how to do taxes, payroll, etc.\

2025-03-17 16:20:05 +0000 UTCA police skill. so basically your sim would need to learn the skill and complete and pass the class before they would be able to have the occupation of a police office. Like IRL officers must go through the academy before they can become a sworn in officer

2025-03-17 16:14:38 +0000 UTCThere are a few mods I have come to refuse to play without--it's unbearable now to go full vanilla--and one at the top is your Better Pie Menu. I love it and I need it and I'm so grateful for it, Andirz, truly. Another mod I look for right away every patch day (or set of mods, really) is SpinningPlumbobs's Expanded Mermaids, Werewolves and Whitelighter mods. Have you played these? They are beautiful. There are some skills sims can only get once they become an occult sim but anyone can learn the lore skills for each of these three. Is there any chance of elective classes for these? (*bats eyes, adorably*)

2025-03-17 15:02:13 +0000 UTCI'd love if you could do some more skills by PiedPiper like Weaving for example? Completely up to you though of course :)

2025-03-17 02:27:16 +0000 UTCHow about Midnitetech's 3D Visualizing Skill from Freelance 3D Modeler Career and Digital Art Skill from Sequential Art Career? Or Alien Lore Skill from One More Kayaker's Aliens Reloaded Mod?

2025-03-16 19:29:04 +0000 UTCFrom Simsonian Library: Apothecary (Kit), Perfumery, Sim Lore from Archaeology Kit, Family Lore from Family History Mod and for Jane Simsten: more instrument mods like Cello and Flute

2025-03-16 19:26:16 +0000 UTCWow, that sounds interesting. No, I haven't heard of that mod. I'll definitely check it out.

2025-03-16 19:19:09 +0000 UTCI don't understand what you mean... Please explain.

2025-03-16 19:17:24 +0000 UTCThese skills already exist. EA, for once, created these courses itself.
Andirz
2025-03-16 19:16:29 +0000 UTCWhich ones exactly? By the way, I've already picked up a lot of Jane Simstens' skills.

2025-03-16 19:15:18 +0000 UTCI'm not sure if you know of Make It Sizzle's Network Security Skill, but that could be a cool custom skill to add https://www.patreon.com/posts/tech-lover-mod-116428132

2025-03-16 19:09:39 +0000 UTCSeconding Brazenlotus' cheesemaking, preserving and canning skills.
Toto
2025-03-16 19:07:28 +0000 UTCMore of Jane Simsten's skills would be great and Simsonian Library's custom Skills
Dragonfyre __
2025-03-16 18:22:10 +0000 UTCI would also like it if the recent pack skills were included, and as for custom skills, I'd personally like to have BrazenLotus' Preserving skill, and/or more from PiedPiper (like mead brewing or weaving) :)

2025-03-16 16:43:25 +0000 UTCI don’t use many custom skills, and the only custom skill I do use is Language Barriers by Frankk, which just got an update with new languages the new worlds from L&D and B&H. So an update to that option would be appreciated. Other than the new skills from recent packs, I can’t think of any others. Sorry, I’m not much help in suggestions. I just love the mod and appreciate all the work you put into it. Thank you very much.

2025-03-16 13:30:49 +0000 UTCI don't know if it's a good idea for electives to build skills more than regular courses.
Andirz
2025-03-16 13:04:33 +0000 UTCMy wish is that elective courses take a skill level to 10. That would be so useful in freelance careers and things like parenting. I don't think this exists yet :) Thanks for all you do!
