It’s already getting ridiculously hot here in Spain, so I’ve officially launched Operation Summer Closet: packing away the cosplays I just can’t wear to events in this weather (the ones with layers on layers, fur, latex prosthetics, full-body paint, heavy armor… you get the idea) and bringing out the lighter ones while I plan a few summer-themed shoots.
That got me thinking: there’s a huge difference between the cosplays I choose for conventions in the summer and the ones I pick for summer photo shoots.
Even though I love sexy looks and pin-up aesthetics, I don’t usually wear super revealing cosplays to cons. Not because I have anything against them (obviously!), but because I think I’m just... shy 😅
I’ve performed burlesque on stage, I’ve done pin-up, lingerie, even artistic nude shoots with full teams in studio or outdoors... no problem. Because in those moments, I’m stepping into a character. I have to be bold, seductive, and camera-ready. I’m performing. And I genuinely enjoy it, but Ithink it's because I can switch it on and off.
But at a convention? There are hours and hours where I’m just… me. Buying comics, queuing for autographs, geeking out at panels, chatting with friends about nerdy stuff. And in those moments, I’m not “Vampisaurus the model" or all the time the character I'm cosplaying. I’m just Sofía. And wearing a super sexy cosplay for 8+ hours in that setting makes me feel hyper-aware of myself the whole time.
Does it make any sense to have this kind of selective modesty when I’m all about boudoir, pin-up, and erotic photography? No clue, hahaha
I guess we all figure out over time where we feel most powerful and comfortable.
