Crystal Dragon 2025! + MEGA! Cinderwing3D THREE YEARS!

EDIT: Updated 300% Dragon so it does not have a weird first layer on the head.
EDIT 2: Want to cut your own? Here's a how to by community member Jiggles!
https://youtu.be/pmw8WsGFGkc

I can't believe it's been 3 years since my first design: the Crystal Dragon!

Our Story
For eight years, my husband and I dreamed of starting our own business. Our ultimate goal was to spend our lives together and with our family, free from the constraints of the traditional 9-to-5 grind. We spent countless late nights fueled by caffeine, brainstorming and working on various business ideas, learning invaluable lessons along the way.

Despite our efforts, my husband continued to work a full-time job while I devoted myself to being a full-time mom. Around three years ago, we discovered the fascinating world of 3D printing and started our own printshop. While operating our print shop, I decided to explore designing—and that decision changed everything. It was then that the Crystal Dragon came to life.

To our amazement, it went viral within a week! That single design not only launched our business but also became a beloved favorite in our community. Even three years later, it remains one of the most popular creations in our lineup.

From the very beginning, one of our biggest goals has been to help others find the same freedom we have by building their own businesses. This vision inspired us to create a subscription model that grants commercial rights to our designs, allowing others to print and sell them for themselves. It’s been such a blessing to hear from people who’ve shared their success stories with us—whether it’s launching their own businesses or using our designs to make a difference in their communities. Some have even told us how these creations have positively impacted autistic children, which fills us with so much gratitude and joy.

We thank God everyday for the inspiration and impact this business has had on our lives and our community.

<<---------------------------------->>

I’ve learned so much since creating my first designs, and over time, I’ve refined features like connecting links and other key aspects. The original Crystal Dragon still uses the original links, which don’t print as smoothly or cleanly as the updated designs.

To celebrate three incredible years of Cinderwing3D, I’m thrilled to release a 2025 updated version PACK of the original Crystal Dragon! This updated version incorporates some of the latest dragon design enhancements while staying true to the charm and spirit of the original.

Yes, you heard that right—PACK! Along with the 2025 updated version of the Crystal Dragon, we’re excited to include a few extra surprises, made possible by our incredible team of testers. Thanks to their efforts, this pack includes (6) .3MF multi-color files and (2) MEGA Crystal Dragon files scaled to an impressive 200% and 300%!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone whose incredible efforts helped bring these fun bonuses to life!

Your contributions made this release truly special!

Comments

Check your cooling and overhangs! Since its a P1S, I always recommend opening the door!

Tracy Francis

Needing some suggestions, I am trying to print this in the Bambu P1S and the joints are too tight. Would you have any suggestions in settings to resolve this issue?

daniel chrisco

Split to objects!

Tracy Francis

We printed at 70%, but the final connector piece isn't snapping together. Is there a way to print just the little piece at 71% without printing that portion of the tail?

Allison Laera

I liked it a lot. 😀😀😀😀. I had no problems. how do you do it?

Bryan

There is not

Tracy Francis

Is there a straight version of the dragon?

Thomas

I just printed the 200% and 300%. Zero printing issues. Absolutely beautiful and painless process. I superglued the connecting pieces together. These are amazing! Thank you! I would love to see more of these mega prints!

Joshua Sands

Like in the photos? Its just the 2 color with raimbow filament :)

Tracy Francis

Any idea if the Crystal dragon 2025 at 100% has a 3mf to download with the rainbow body and white spikes please? Not in the downloads

Debbie Hardy

Per the post I recommend 5% gyroid infill :)

Tracy Francis

i cant get nowhere near the 800g filament estimate for the 200%. even at 2 walls im at 950g. if i make it 3 walls then i am almost 1150g. and thats at .2 layer, 15% gyroid infill. Am i doing something wrong?

Fred B

just finished printing the 300 % it measures out to 71" long

matt bowman

It'll vary based on settings and filament, the best thing you can do is slice is for an estimate!

Tracy Francis

For anyone who’s printed the 300% Dragon. Can anyone tell me an approximate weight for display purposes?

Braden Toms

why not just do the 300% then? The pieces gradually go down in size, so I think it would be noticeable.

Stephanie Campbell

Just completed the 300% and I am in love with it!

Stephanie Campbell

I am known to miss things, but I've combed the post multiple times and I just don't see it.

Emma Liz

No, as stated in the post, this was a one time thing! You are welcome to cut it up yourself however!

Tracy Francis

is there by chance a 300% with wings? I printed the first 300% and would love a flying friend! =)

Trent Lilly

Thank you.

Skye Blackledge

It can scale safely between 60-100% :)

Tracy Francis

Has anyone tried a scaled down version 90 or 80%?

Skye Blackledge

Just finished printing the 200% in 1 color and when I sliced it to send to the printed didn't catch it had a prime tower (it had to do with the Timelapse ) and because of that I ran out of filament 15 minutes left on the print lol luckily I ordered a new roll before bed as a just in case and I couldn't wait for amazon to get here today to finish lol

noel laurence

I tried it at 75% with a .6 and I would say it came out "gummy" -- the joints don't move well, and there are little balls of filament on top of the foremost horns. I suspect it would work much better at full size or 200%, etc., though.

Matt Smaus

It should print fine with that

Tracy Francis

Can this print with a .6 nozzle, or do you have suggestions for how to change the settings in Bambu Studio to ensure it will print with a .6 nozzle?

Matt Smaus

Does anyone know on the 200% crystal dragon if I wanted to make it a bit longer could i print two of plate 3 or would it not connect correctly then?

Justin Revel

I ended up opening it on my chromebook just in case, and it was fine. Thanks for the awesome models.

Zach

You can find it on cults3d and myminifactory. Sorry for the late reply :)

Zach

They are just plain old STLs and 3mfs, it's a false positive :)

Tracy Francis

My computer said these files could be harmful to my pc.

Zach

Does the 300% dragon require supports on the connectors?

PocketPrints 3D

They are already :)

Tracy Francis

Could you include the stl files separately for each?

Clueless Jane

Can I request an additional body piece option to elongate the body between the feet on the 300 & 200 files? Pleeeease :-)

Kim McKenzie Knittig

Is it normal that it just looks like a gigantic blob for me?

Clueless Jane

Is there any plan to make a short tailed version?

Stephanie Figard

Honestly, you are just rolling the dice on it. Make sure each plate is directionally oriented correctly. I don't have the stl pulled up right now but as I remember it it the body sections was oriented similarly enough to get a pretty consistent look... it won't be perfect with the curves but that variance is consistent so it might actually add to the look. If you don't like that you might have to manually straighten the pieces up. Be sure the head and legs are also directionally correct/matching the other pieces direction on the plates. That is all tou can do related to the model and its slice... The other trick is to have 2 rolls that are rolled the same way and are neatly rolled. That can be a challenge. The last challenge is making sure the filament hits the hot end the same way on your load of the second reel when it happens. It could be just luck... or of you are using A1s without and AMS you can note the how the filament is entering the extruder on the first roll Just pull up the the ptfe tube out of the top where in enters the printhead/extruder and take note if the orientation. You can replace the ptfe tube until that reel runs out the when you load the second reel pull the tube again during that process and manually make sure that the filament enters exactly the same way. Even so... the filament could have a twist on the reel or just slowly twist over time as it's loaded. There are no guarantees. This is why solid or multicolor prints might be better that bi or tricolors co-extruded). If you manage to pull off a tricolor or even a gradient over 11 plates you will have reached goat tier. I am printing a single color test run but I am tempted to try a tricolor too. love to here how it works out!.

Ron Barrett

I did 4 on my A1 at 60% and they are 40 minutes out. Gyroid, 15%, no brims

AK Creations

I have no plans to at this time since the Crystalwing works as is :)

Tracy Francis

I just wanted to say thank you for your beautiful designs and artistic greatness! You changed my life 3 years ago and finally gave me the direction I wanted to go in my business. If I hadn't found you, I may have never continued to move forward. I appreciate all your hard work!

Lioness2000

Did it work when you tried it on gyroid? I’ve had 6 prints fail printing it at around 60% with gyroid set on two different bambu lab printers. Weird thing is I can print it at 70% just fine. Any bigger and it fails. (This is for the regular sized dragon not the large ones)

Kelly Houlahan

Can you please make a winged version of this 2025 one? I printed it and realized it was the non winged version. OOPS lol

Emir Yildiz

I'm getting ready to print the 200% dragon anyone have any issues with the glue holding the weight of the dragon together. I plan on using a super glue called loctite super glue works pretty well on other filament things I have just wanted to know what glue was anyone using or if they had an issues with the rings staying together with the rest of the weight of the dragon. Thanks

Brian Frederick

What slicer are you using?

Tracy Francis

Where can I find it? I’ll happily pay for it!

Samantha Smith

You have to pay for it :(, But it is a cool model that I paid for and would recommend

Zach

Happy note for all of you trying to get every last gram out of your filament. If you follow the recommendation to print the 300% at 5% infill, the total filament is a little more than 1.8kg, the 2.7kg is with the 15% infill. I bought four rolls, and I am getting two 300% dragons from it! Gyroid, 5%.

Ian Bergeron

Hi! Is there a baby crystal dragon with wings version anywhere? :)

Samantha Smith

good to know but disappointing i wont be able to do the 300%

Elizabeth Rapp

Mine wont even let me open it. Im getting a unhandled unknown exception ; terminating the application message whenever I open it up. Ive already tried deleting the file and re-downloading and it still isnt working

Sierra McGuire

Yes you need glue!

Tracy Francis

I 100% had it on grid. Crap. I didn't even realize I had it on grid to be honest. Whelp time to try on right infill

AK Creations

I can not wait to print this! My nephew is going to freak out...if/when I decide to give it to him. lol

John Garcia

Check you're not on grid infill. Had 2 fails around the same spot start at the tail. Couldn't figure why. Came back reading over the release and seen recommended infill. Changed to gyroid and printed fine.

Bio

on printing the part with the dragon head, I woke up to my printer being "paused" like someone had pushed pause. When i tried to resume the print, the nozzle just went to the print and sat there, it wouldn't print no further. It was stopped at about 10 hours with 2 hours left. I had to scrap the part because it would not continue, im not sure if thats what you experienced. But I switched it to a different printer and finished it after starting it all over again.

dustin stewart

whats the easiest way to put the rings together, my big fingers don't have much room to squeeze them together. And do you need to use glue?

dustin stewart

I've had to fails right at the 60% mark on regular print. Anyone else having any issues?

AK Creations

You can use the cut tool to split the rings from the dragon. Each ring is specific to each plate so I don't want to add a lot of files and make it more confusing than it already is

Tracy Francis

On a few plates I've had the half ring fail, not sure what caused it... Went back, split to parts, and was able to just print the ring - however, I noticed the dragon part falls apart, like the little pegs just drop to the plate bottom. Can we get a file version that's just the dragon and just the half ring?

Mike Sprague

ok thank you so much. Did you just use regular super glue to put it together

Carol

the instructions are in the post :)

Tracy Francis

just start with plate 1 (head) and then the tail is from 2 (starting at the head) to 9 (tail end). 10 plate are the first feets, near head) plate 11 are the feats more to the tail end

Yves Tremp

I just finished with no support and no brims, Bambu slicer, with any changes on setting, its just beautiful

Adrianna Chinea

I just finished with no support and no brims, Bambu slicer, with any changes on setting, its just beautiful

Adrianna Chinea

I'm guessing it's probably been asked already, but I didn't want to look through over a hundred comments, but is there instructions on how to put the 300% version together, or is it just the order of the 11 plates? Thank you.

Tommie Staples

OK I ordered 4 rolls to print the 300%. Here's my question, lol i'm new at this. I'll be printing on a bambu A1. Will i need to change anything as you mentioned supports lol. Help a new girl out

Carol

Has anyone printed the 200% or 300% on Kobra 3 yet? if so, did you change any of the settings and did u have to scale down each plate of the 300% down to 97%?

Suzanne Landry

It was already updated back when I updated ALL the eggs :)

Tracy Francis

Where can we get the updated Crystal dragon egg? I have the original that has the older locking mechanism. I'm sure there was a post months ago about a newer version :)

Mark Watt

I'm doing the 5 ft dragon and I have 2 multi color roll. How will it match the color changes if your doing it in four sections and putting it together. Say your color change is purple blue red on one multi color roll. How will the 4 sections match up. It wont will it?. I hope this makes sense.

WoodGuyzzzz@gmail.com

Thank you so much I loved the mega scale ones did the 200% one in a tricolor now using the mega layout on how the parts were i am working on a 200% scale rose dragon

Stephen Zuschlag

If I had the filament I'd 100% be making one of the giant ones!

Gemini Wolf Gamer

Its pretty easy to paint yourself! That was part of the redesign, to make it easier to paint :)

Tracy Francis

would love to see some of these completed 5' and 6' dragons

Michelle T

Great work I know you are busy is there a chance of getting a 300% head 3mf with the eyes and teeth colored I'm working on the first 300% now and next one wanted to do the multiple colored head.

JACKPOT 3D CREATIONS

Mine is taking 2.5 roles with 3 wall loops, 5% infill, and crosshatch on the P1S.

Ed Sechrist

I love Amazon. Had to order 3 of the same color rolls of filament. Ordered right after seeing this release on Saturday I ordered and it came Sunday. Even with 2 printers I still have 3 plates to print for the 300% dragon. This is exciting!

Ed Sechrist

I was want to put it on our Neptune 4 plus so it would fit, my ams printers are smaller and I had to shrink it to 85%. I wanted to print it the full 200%.

ruth knag

What printer do you have? Does it have an AMS?

Zach

When you coming back to MLB ? 😁

Mark

Can only do 150% with my flashforge adventurer pro 5, but loving it so far! Only have the head printed. Will be a great display dragon for craft shows!

Renee villard

Mine came out to 54 inches long

Billie

im getting ready to start a 200% but it wont let me put it on my single color printers, what couls i be doing wrong?

ruth knag

The short tail file existed due to folks having issues printing the tiny little links on the OG Crystal Dragon. This dragon doesn't have that issue so there was no reason to make one :)

Tracy Francis

What about short-tail file?

Nancy

Thanks 😊

Backdraftwarrior67

itll depend on your settings but it'll be 2-4 rolls of PLA

Tracy Francis

you would of loved the mega lunar dragon I did last year. it was 4 feet and multi color.

Trevor Bauer

Does anyone know how much filament is needed for the 300% Dragon print? Thanks

Backdraftwarrior67

Amazing Story. 3D Printing Changed my life as well! I was a personal trainer, with my own gym, forced out of business by Phil Murphy, during "Covid" lockdowns. Surviving on Doordash, and instacart, I got my 1st 3D Printer, a dream I had for many years, on sale..... It changed EVERYTHING. However, creating art like this, from thin air.... detailed dragons with wings, and teeth and all that. Not a chance. I can barely make a cube.

Gregg Adventure

Great story...My family is right behind your family's tailwinds to do the same!! My daughter has been dreaming of a "HUGE" dragon and I too started to think about how to accomplish this. We're on the wavelength here. Keep it up.

Charles Kiesow

Load them up and see!

Tracy Francis

No sorry!

Tracy Francis

You don't, unfortunately. There's no real way

Tracy Francis

how would the gradient filament stay lined up across multiple plates?

Tim Belton

My PETG version

Bob Bunge

No idea yet. Plate 1 is still printing and have the other 3 to print yet. She says in the post that it’s like 5 feet long I believe

Michele

Happy Birthday 🎂! Your story is beautiful and so inspiring 💖 Here, it's also an adventure I share with my husband, the first printer was his; the poor man doesn't print much anymore 😅 Your success is fully deserved and I am very proud to speak and showcase your work with my clients, you are a true artist 🖌✨️

Ohana Factory

Can we get a resin printer orientation like with the original crystal dragon?

Heather. Jackson

What is the difference between the 6 3M color files

Tammy Null

Thank you so much cinderwing you've been rocking this year so far. Happy 3 years & to many more.

Zach Roth

How long is the 200% dragon?

Zach Roth

300% dragon here I come. I'm so excited! I order the filament yesterday, did some extra painting today, and it's sliced and ready to print pending filament delivery tomorrow. 11 plates, 296 hours to print. Wish me luck!

Cathy

This looks so awesome!!!

River Wilmoth

This is awesome! I started setting up a 300% dragon a few months ago, but never got around to finishing all the cutting. Now I can finally get that printed :-)

Jill Foster

So excited for my 200% one to finish. Will need to order filament for the 300% one. lol

Michele

So much this month! I still remember Joel Telling the 3DPN showing the crystal dragon he printed. That's when I joined your Patreon.

Gerhard Grobler

So much fun this month! Thanks for all your hard work this is awesome

Stargazr69

Happy anniversary! I am happy to be here for 2 years thank you so much for so much nice dragons. I also have already mak a 450% large crystal dragen XD

NoLimit3D

Happy anniversary! I'm so happy to have been along for almost half of these 3 years now. My business started out with your designs, the Crystal Dragon in particular. So thank you for this awesome update! Greetings from the Netherlands

Sheila Sjeu - Mooi3D

Thank you so much. We love your dragons, and seeing the kids faces when they find their new homes 😊

WishingRose

Absolutely not a problem, no harm in asking. Wasn't sure how easy or hard of a task it was or how long it would take. Appreciate you getting back to me so quickly though. Thanks 👍

FAN3DP

a dream comes true, already started printing!😍

Yves Tremp

Congrats on the 3 years. Looks like I’ll be putting the k1 max to use, best get buying more filament…… goodbye Etsy profit 😂😂😂😂

Kristoffer Wallace

Going by how the model is cut, it looks like we can make the tail as long as we want... I think things might get a bit ridiculous over here lol.

OmegaEntityBlue

I have one i made set at 494% !!!!! Absolute biggest I could print on the the X1C. Just the head is one plate! Absolutely soooo fun! Now I will have to do it for the updated version! And multi color!!!! YES

Samuel Goedhart

There is no chance. They see very little use and I don't have the time to plate the dragons multiple different ways for it to barely be used! Sorry! You are welcome to re-plate it yourself if you like!

Tracy Francis

Whats the chances of having this in the straight format we had the original in. I have an Idea former ir3 v2 coming and this would be an epic first print. Thanks

FAN3DP

Welp. Guess I'm ordering more filament tonight (I just ordered something morning but I didn't factor this in). :) THANK YOU!

christina goodvin

This is Awesome!! Thank You for all your hard work.

William

Generally no supports but the 300% *MAY* need them on the connection points, as stated in the post!

Tracy Francis

Looks like it got my printers work cut out for them.

Moldy Kumquat

Just curious, will we need to add supports or are they like the rest and print without supports?

Jason Equia

Congratulations!! So happy for you!!

Lana Spires

Happy 3rd year!

Trisha Atchley

Congratulations 🎉 Thank you for the refresh and the mega size one, would make a good display piece for my retail shop :)

Nippon4U

Oh big boy. How big was is the egg that would have to come out of?

John Goedeker

Happy Anniversary to you guys! Your prints and work is absolutely amazing! It was cool to hear about your back story too. We appreciate all the hard work everyone has been putting into making your prints so successful! I had asked last year about how to split up and enlarge a dragon and you were nice enough to give me the tips to walk me though. But I never did get around to printing it. SOOO guess what just got loaded onto our printer?!?! YES! The 200% one is going NOW! Thank you again for everything!

SilverWitch

Kiss my my southern "Gritz" and lick you 3D Lips. I joined Patron CinderWing this morning after buying two CD files, wanting to learn more. And I did, the Chat / Blog / Sharing hopefully gets me out of the "birds nest \: in several of my 6 P1S. Just ordered 16 spools of your colors and looking forward to using the mu.

Thai2U

Congratulations on 3 years! I absolutely love your designs. I'm still pretty new to 3D printing and the MEGA crystal dragon will by far my biggest print ever. I can't wait to start printing. :)

Cathy

You can also blow up the already multi colored one and piece it together like the ones done. It might actually be faster than painting from scratch 😅😂. I have spent and well continue to spend so much time painting all the current models too. Some are worse than others. But splitting to objects and cutting the Rings with connectors is soooo much easier!

Joshua Oliver

I just bought new colors of filament right in time for this oml... Congrats on 3 years!

Caitlyn Jardine

Congratulations on your 3 years. I'm printing 6 Pepe Le Pew with roses as soon as that's done. I'm printing the 6-foot dragon. Thank God i just received 20 new rolls of filament.

Armando Muniz

Of course...I just swapped in my .2 nozzle to print some minis for a buddy!

Mike Clark

Thank you so much for all you do @ Cinderwing3D! Sending many blessings to you and your family!

Brandon Ryan

I can't wait to print this

Carol

O cool I was wayy of! I am ordering 3 rolls right now

ruth knag

I'll give it a whirl!

Stephen Pence

the 200% will be about 1 roll, the 300% is about 2.5/3 rolls

Tracy Francis

O my. I'll have to check it out then. Sounds scary lol

Sean

Its fairly easy to paint yourself! This dragon was re-done from the ground up, including easier to paint crystals :)

Tracy Francis

Its split into multiple plates!

Tracy Francis

How does one print at such scale? 🤯

Sean

Congrats on 3 years! Here is to many more years of bring your ideas to print!

Brian Jett

Happy 3 Year Anniversary! Our family is obsessed with your designs and of course the dragons! The first thing my kiddos do everyday when they get home from school is immediately start a new dragon, spider, or other critter design that is made from you! We are so excited to see what you have in store for 2025!

Aimee Riha

Congratulations on 3 years!!

Kaci Rhea

Super excited for this. I have been waiting for this...

kim Sinks

do you think there might, maybe, be a multi-color mega release? or is it there and i'm not seeing it?

Stephen Pence

So am I figuring it right? Like 8 rolls?

ruth knag

Oh boy, thought mine at 50" was big. Guess I get to go bigger on he next one

Anthony Reuter

Hell ya!! Congrats on 3yrs!! And heres to many more years of designing amazing creations and many more years of marriage and success for you and your husband and kids!!! 🎉🎉🎉

JMac Creations

Thank you so much for sharing your story, it's so beautiful and I loved reading it.

Tami Gardner

wow wow wow

Watkins 3D Creations

That’s wild!!!!

James

OMG I am sooooooooo excited!!! I have been wanting this mega file forever!!! Thank you so very very very much for making it. Happy 3 year anniversary

Michelle McCoy

An absolute unit of a dragon can't wait to figure out what filament im going to use for this

Andrewcooke Cooke

Another assembly tip for holding the joints together while glue sets- you can stick some tape around the small piece, extra long so it give you some "handles" which allows you to maneuver it easier, and gives more leverage when you're trying to engage the joints!

Gerard Williams

Oh. My. Gawd! A mega crystal dragon? WOW! I am definitely going to find the time and filament to print at least one of these. Also, congratulations on 3 years of the Crystal dragon! 🥳🎉🎊

Katherine Lawrence

This was our first mega print too and it is surreal holding it! it's amazing!

Tracy Francis

Holy cow!!! How in the world!!! My eyes bugged out. LOL

CraftyMama

LOL OMG

Tracy Francis

Now the question is what's the best way to slice up an egg to fit it lol

joe Cool

I am stoked and terrified to print a mega dragon!

William Orton

Just me running to the printer 🏃‍♀️

Tiffany Daugherty

Omg i can't WAIT TO PRINT THIS!!

Abigail Petri

I'm new here, but you have definitely earned it. It took me days in to my 3D printing journey to find you, and I've been absolutely LOVING your designs. I'm so excited to see what you have in store for us!

Nick Morrissey

Zomg I just finished making a 300% crystal dragon! I'm sure this one is much better than my cut job.

Gerard Williams

Can't wait to start printing the huge ones when the beds are done today. They are gonna be sick

Nathan Haynes
