Semikilter Box (vase and regular modes)

It's a box with a big, slotted front opening!

It's fun to take advantage of printing things on odd angles, to do things that are otherwise just not possible.  Here we have a box with six sides and a wide, slotted front that gets printed at 45 degrees so that all six of those sides are at nice, easy angles for printing.

You'll also notice that smooth curve at the lower front - that wouldn't be there in a conventional print, since the lower part would effectively become a messy overhang.  Printing at 45 degrees, though, means that we have none of that limitation, so those grooves on the front just sweep around and underneath.  In fact, the only part of this print that isn't textured is the bit that's on the bed during printing - the big chamfer thingy at the back.  Everything else has lines and circles aplenty.

Printing Tips

If you are printing the vase mode version, set your slicer accordingly!

This one is friendly for big nozzles, too - that yellow one in the photos was printed with 1.5mm layer lines and a 1.8mm extrusion width, and wow is it strong!

Whether you're printing the vase mode or regular version, you'll want to have this oriented so that it sits at 45 degrees, with the open part at the top!  In that orientation it's a straightforward print with no trickiness whatsoever :)

Print Dimensions

The full-sized box, oriented at 45 degrees for printing, occupies 160mm x 198mm on the print bed and is 157mm tall.  However, it can be easily scaled up or down to suit!

Further Thoughts

I'm so fickle - an array of Semikilter Boxes has replaced my Shimmy Bins next to my printers!  It's all about the textures, you see, and I just really like how the sides turned out on this one :)
