Vase Mode Christmas Tree!

I was making pyramids, and ended up at a Christmas tree!

That's right, you may have seen by now the Industrial Pyramid Vase Box and noticed the distinct similarities.  The pyramids came first, but when printed in green and red imparted a certain holiday vibe.  And so the path to actual tree-ness began!

Taking a step back, though - yes, all these parts are vase mode!  The tree itself is a single print, and it fits into a similarly styled base.  Notches in the tree hold decorations neatly, and there's a star to fit on top.  All those are vase mode, too!

Funny thing, those baubles were intended to fit into the tree the other way around, so that they looked solid.  However, I really like having them hollow-side out, in some kind of celebration of vase mode.  You could, of course, just print them (and the star) solid if you really wanted to, but they wouldn't be so magically light and airy :)

The baubles should fit into the tree with a snug fit, but as always it's worth testing with just one or two before printing 64 of them, and adjusting the scaling if necessary.  That said, you can always glue all these bits together if you want them to stay nice and securely assembled!

Printing Tips

These are all vase mode pieces, so set your slicer accordingly!  All the angles are designed for nice, neat vase-mode printing.

In terms of pieces fitting into each other, the models are intended for a 0.4mm nozzle, so if you're using something other than that you might need to do a little scaling and experimenting.

The base and tree print right-way-up.

The star prints side-down, and the baubles are intended to be chamfered side down, but really you can print those bits any way you like.  In fact, they don't *have* to be vase mode if you're prefer to print them with regular settings.  It's just fun doing them in vase mode :)

Print Dimensions

The main tree body is the largest part, and is 65mm x 65mm and 128mm tall.

The baubles are...well, quite small.

Further Thoughts

This thing is just so light!  I do love that about vase mode - so quick and so light.  You might want to put something in the base to give it some weight, if it's likely to fall over! :)

Happy festive printing season!

Comments

That said, printed up the current design as is and loved it.

If you are taking thoughts for cool things you could do with the model, it would be awesome to be able to use the tree or base as a box, either for storing the ornaments and star, or as a Christmas themed gift box. Not sure if it’s possible to vase-mode in a place to put magnets to help that function.

QUESTION: How do you adjust the thickness of the TREE while in vase mode on my Prusa?? The walls come out very thin and I cannot remember which setting allow for a thicker wall while using vase mode! I am a long time Patreon supporter! Huge fan of your works!

Hmm, looks okay now - might have been still syncing?
