Patreon keeps bugging me to write about Sales Tax!

I have some actual printing stuff to post, but before we get to that, let's talk about taxes!

Sales tax! I'm not sure there's a more dry topic than that. However, Patreon is quite insistent that I write something about it, so here we are! You've probably already had emails about it like I have, but the upshot is that Patreon was not collecting sales taxes (i.e. VAT, GST, whatever) in all countries that it should, and they're changing that so that they're complying with local laws - fair enough!

I won't see any change at all at my end, but you might get tax added to your pledge based on where you live.

Here's the most relevant part though: I've declared to Patreon that your pledges are 50% for downloadable content, and 50% for supporting me, which I think is a reasonable position to take. Why that matters is that (depending on your local tax rules) that means that you may only get tax calculated on 50% of the pledge amount.

Anyway, that's pretty much it! It's largely out of our collective control, but if you live somewhere with draconian tax laws that means that this has some huge impact, please do let me know :)
