Howdy, wonderful supporters! Happy December!
Right this moment I'm adding the final touches to another hinged box design, but in the meantime, here's my take on a neat tool that's been around forever. This jig is one of those blindingly-obvious tools that I find immensely clever, and as you've probably realised, it's for finding the centre of circular things.
Basically, there's a lip on the underside with a 90 degree bend, and that gets pushed up against the edge of the circle. That positions the 45-degree arm along the diameter of the circle. So, draw a line, then move the jig and draw another. The two lines will of course cross in the centre! So neat :)
Now, it's quite useful to actually draw three lines, because that way you get some validation. The three lines should meet precisely, and if they don't then the jig might not have been placed quite right, or the pen might have been angled so as to draw parallel to the edge, rather than along it.
I resisted the urge to put hexagonal holes all through this design, but I still etched out a bunch of stripes - I'm a sucker for texture :)
Creative Printer tier supporters will find this design on Dropbox as usual.
Okay, back to prodding my printers into action! Happy printing!
