She is Japanese who married a white man and their daughter has blue eyes 🥰 After finishing the show please watch the making of. This show was made with such care and passion! That’s why the photography and fight scenes are so beautiful and very accurate. Together with Arcane and Avatar the last airbender, Blue Eye Samurai is my favourite animated series of all time 🥰🥰🥰

Damn near just got slapped in the forehead by big man's dong. I've been meaning to watch this show for quite some time but never got to it. It definitely lives up to it's great rep and I liked these first two episodes more than I imagined. Great reaction Frank. You had some great insight that I'm not sure I would have.

Mizu means water, and not only is water so significant to their meditative and healing process, but their own gender itself seems rather fluid, with an appreciation for the feminine they were denied and the masculinity they were forced into out of survival. Also: The action and maturity of this show is SO fun, I feel like its rare that we get American-made cartoons for adults that aren't edgy for the sake of being edgy. They actually use mature elements super well, while referencing sooo many other films both within the samurai/ronin genre and without (they reffed Lord of the Rings and Wizard of Oz in ep 1, for example!). There's also a lot of Game of Thrones vibes around Akemi, with the hierarchical power dynamics. LOVE this show.

Property that is owned and sold and traded and used and discarded. The idea that a woman, would become a samurai is so unfathomable, it isn't a thought that crosses anyone's mind. If anything they would think she was a young boy but they are usually too caught up on her mixed race to get to her gender. Anyway, I love this show! Woo!!!
