Lol I just love your look of disgust throughout these two episodes, almost thought your camera was frozen at times.
They really don’t pull punches this season, it gets less funny and a lot more serious considering these people rule our lives.
I think Ken says it best in a moment of self awareness.
”Maybe the poison drips through” that’s the poison Logan’s had that has been passed down to him.
Ken mimics him in everything now, especially the way he talks about his kids and family.
The way he talks to Hugo even having Colin be his bodyguard.
That’s Logan’s legacy besides a shitty media empire spreading poison themselves.
He wanted Swedish Elon musk to take over anyway.
Even in death Logan’s shadow looms over them, and they still have to impress him. To prove to him that they are worthy despite the fact that he didn’t want any of them to take over.

“Maybe the poison drips through” in episode 8 to “but my god I hope it’s in me” in episode 9 is just excellent writing. Watching Kendall lose the plot and any hope the audience may have had for him to not become Logan is so tough.
Kieran Culkin’s (Roman) acting in episode 9 is absolutely outstanding.
Episode 8 is a HARD watch after the 2016 and 2024 elections. Very difficult to even suspend disbelief and enjoy the characters. Art imitates life a little too much.

I’m with Tom… I’m just so tired. Someone please tell these kids they win and then send them to a farm upstate.

I think of you often every time Kendall is on his bullshit, 'cause of how much you like him. And I'm like Melissa is probably grinning her teeth at him right now😆

And that makes me so sad to acknowledge that Logan being alive sort of kept them in check and that was a "good" thing for them
Sam here Melissa. Impossible to imagine, and the youngest is just currently feeling something they've all probably felt at some point

In terms of the episode though - who knew having Greg on side would end up being so pivotal. Slimeball! Aw man poor Shiv

"Maybe the poison drips through", is one of those lines that is so brilliantly evocative I kind of just assumed it was Shakespeare or something...but no, Jesse Armstrong is just a genius too

I must have rewatched the first three seasons at least five times but haven’t managed to bring myself to rewatch S4 until now, finally catching up with you, although I’m yet to watch this latest one. Hell, I could hardly watch it the first time! I’ve never felt so nauseous and hateful from a tv show before haha - I suppose it’s amplified triple just knowing what’s really going on in the world.
Your company and commentary are so heartening in this way, and the comments often have yet more insights which I love.
I watched for the first time with my mum and we would always talk for aaages after each episode ended - going from the characters and their infuriating motivations to the minutiae of the writing to current politics and all the real stuff and then we would need a cup of tea and an episode of The Simpsons or something just to calm down.
Bit of a ramble just to say thanks for taking us on the ride with you, this show is one of my favs ever but it is a damn hard slog sometimes!

Kendall pulling in Colin, one of the few people that know about the boy from the wedding. Kendall going full Logan Roy. Breaks my damn heart.
And, yes, Roman wants them to hurt him. Going back to the abuse from his father.

1:40:12 You're so right. Even in death, Logan is so present. I do think his death has brought out and/or enhanced even more the worst in all of the kids.
The women coming together was one of my favorite moments. For real. They all really loved him at one point or another. I find it impossible to imagine, but it's clear they did.
The acting in "Church and State" is on another level. Like levels above levels above levels.

17:37 Episode 8 gave me SO MUCH ANXIETY and SO MUCH ANGER. We literally have been traumatized in this country. I've actually dreaded this episode for you.
56:26 I feel you. This episode aired May 14, 2023. I felt absolutely sick after watching it. I feel sick watching it now. But, I guess the authenticity is what makes it so painful.
And just a note to say that Kendall's line, "Maybe the poison drips through" is so haunting. I think Kendall's been so quiet because he's torn. Politically, he's probably centrist or left-leaning (perhaps more of a performative left-leaning than the reality), but he's much more concerned about how it affects him and his ambitions. He knows how divisive Mencken is, he has a daughter who has been directly affected (I'll never forgive him for this especially!), and yet . . . he also doesn't like Mencken specifically b/c he wants more power than Roman in the relationship with whomever wins. Kendall's character is like the people I wonder about all the time who vote R -- people who are literally related to those who will suffer the most under the candidate. And they just don't care. Or maybe it's because Kendall knows/thinks his money can be a ballast against it, like hiring a car to follow his wife and daughter to "protect" them. More people need to understand that there is no limit to what evil people will do. When they're done destroying others, where will they go next? Right to you. No one is safe. Disgusting how people can sacrifice everything for some power or influence or money.
There's mention that Logan had a rule that the company owners were not allowed on the media floor on election night. I believe Logan would have stayed off the floor physically though we know he was always all up in the shit. These three cannot even stay away and not meddle. Truly, they are children in adult bodies.

Didn’t think Seeing Roman cry and break down got me tearing up but here we are. What’s worse about that is now everyone thinks Roman is weak for showing a human vulnerability and was televised on national television, Also maybe shiv is being naive and blinded but how does she not see she’s getting played by mattson and she will never get that CEO position she always wishes
