Weekly update⭐
Added 2025-08-24 17:40:39 +0000 UTCAloha🤟🏽
I'm temporarily adding 2 more shows to the mix. They will be posted on the same day as other current shows, so don't worry about your favorite shows taking more days to come around. I feel like I have the capacity to do more. Plus, I gotta get my numbers back up after my recent wisdom tooth break. The grind continues. I am grateful for the opportunity to do this and for all of you💛 The shows I pick are not necessarily the runner-ups from previous polls, but some that I find interesting and I want to explore. If the new shows excite current members and attract new friends, then that's just a beautiful bonus🙏🏽
Our Patreon now has its own chat rooms for everyone to stay in touch. More chat groups will be added later. You can find it under "Chats/Community"

2025-08-28 21:40:14 +0000 UTCLoved this show. I think season 3 was the end, though I'd love more episodes.

2025-08-28 03:16:41 +0000 UTCRECOMMENDATION: There's a delightful show on HBO/MAX called "Somebody Somewhere" that is one of those hidden gems. It is so heartwarming and funny. I know you'd love it, Franklin. 3 seasons at this point == 7 episodes each season == episodes are 30 minutes

2025-08-28 01:33:50 +0000 UTCI have endless favorite books but if someone put a gun to my head it would still be “The Count of Monte Cristo”

2025-08-27 03:00:15 +0000 UTCI think my favorite book ever, and that's a hard choice, is actually Fried Green Tomatoes. I think people mostly remember the movie, which is great and what a freaking amazing cast, but the book was actually quite different and it really blew my mind. While it was primarily about Idgie and Ruth and the Threadgoode family, Fannie Flagg wrote the book about the entire town of Whistle Stop. We'd visit character after character, just for a couple of pages, and not only was she amazing at weaving smaller characters into the main story but her style of writing taught me that every single character is important, even if their only action in the main story was to be somewhere in the background, you would get this small view into their life and it could be heartbreaking, funny, or surprising. It influenced me hugely as a writer and how I see characters.

2025-08-27 01:56:53 +0000 UTCi've been reading a lot of non-fiction recently for my master's thesis, and i've found a few new favourites among them! the two first are collections of political writings/speeches, the third is about art and artists' impact on/role in society; — "Ghassan Kanafani: Selected Political Writings" (2024) edited by Louis Brehony & Tahrir Hamdi — "Return to the Source: Selected Texts of Amilcar Cabral" (2022) revised by Tsenay Serequeberhan — "The Necessity of Art" by Ernst Fischer (translated by Anna Bostock, 2010 edition) as for fiction, two books have remained my favourites since i read them in 2021; — "Real Life" by Brandon Taylor — "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt

2025-08-26 19:59:24 +0000 UTCFrank ur the goat bro, love the care u show for getting content out for ur fans, genuinely one of the few creators I keep up with anymore. My favorite book is probably A Dance with Dragons by GRRM currently. I was a huge GoT fan like a lot of people so once I dove into the book series i just instantly became obsessed. For any GoT diehard fans who may be reading this and want more of Westeros I urge u to read the book series if u haven’t, it is so well done and well worth the time. Other than fantasy tho I struggle to read books so happy to hear any recommendations.

2025-08-26 14:58:01 +0000 UTCoh my god frank. blesss you. Not sure if these two won the poll, but the OA and Shogun are A) such great pieces of art in their own right, and perhaps most significantly, B) shows I cannot wait to get your reaction to.

2025-08-25 21:48:08 +0000 UTCAlso, picking a favourite book depends on who asks and what comes to mind in the moment… to you I’d say The Noticer by Andy Andrews … bonus The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

2025-08-25 18:24:00 +0000 UTCThere are a few books I read when I was young that I thought were really profound, but in retrospect were kind of entry-level philosophy and are painful to reread. Story of B comes to mind. I was also big into atheist stuff that is not nearly as interesting as it was when I was first learning how to defend my lack of belief. Still big props to Dawkins for popularizing the word “meme”. Sorry about Neil (I’m guessing). What a shithead, still love his books though. I just finished Seveneves by Neal Stephenson and loved it! I’ll bet Snow Crash holds up.
Valaree
2025-08-25 18:17:45 +0000 UTCI’d say my favorite book is Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. It probably has a lot to do with the context I first read it in, I was 16 at summer camp, so there’s a lot of nostalgia tied in to it for me. My most re-read book is probably The Vampire Lestat. ❤️ that idiot.

2025-08-25 16:28:51 +0000 UTCOh, that book is going on my TBR immediately! You gave it a very scrumptious selling.

2025-08-25 12:56:50 +0000 UTCOh, we doing the OA too?? Along with White Lotus??? OKAY, summer's gonna wrap up right! Hmmm, favorite book...favorite book... You know, I used to be a rabid reader when I was younger. But in the last 15 years, I think social media, binge watching, smart phone addiction, and working a very high-pressured, long-houred desk job kind of ruined my brain. For real, for real. And I just about completely stopped reading during that time. However, a little over a year ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to leave that job and begin working on healing my life. I set myself up with a Kindle Unlimited account on my iPad finally and have been plowing thru the books lately! My favorite new book I've read so far has been Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. SO good, I highly recommend it to anyone who loves sci-fi/fantasy of a unique nature. There are two more books in the series which I'll be getting to for sure, but I had to take a bit of a break because it's also kind of heavy (while also being oddly funny and light though!). As for my Back-in-the-Day favorite, I'm at an odd place. Once upon a time (ha!), there was an author whose works I would've said were my favorite. But unfortunately, recently, he has discovered to be a very problematic person (despite writing such unproblematic works!), so I just can't in good conscience. And another that I would've said, I began re-reading this year, and...well. I still mostly enjoyed what I've re-read so far, but it's nowhere near as well written as I remember. I also might've said The Hundred Secret Senses by Amy Tan, Generation X by Douglas Coupland, Snow Crash by Neal Stephensen, and several of the works of William Gibson, but tbh, now I feel like I need to re-read all of those as well, to be sure lol! (This ever happen to anyone else? Re-read an old favorite and find it's not so favorite anymore? Would love to hear about it!) So, for now, just consider me: Currently in Search of a New Favorite Book :)

2025-08-25 12:14:20 +0000 UTCShogun YAASS King! You will not be sorry. And White Lotus is practically made for this group. I’m giddy. Favorite lesser-known book is Swamplandia by Karen Russell. Funny, semi-dystopian (Florida in the 2000’s was its own dystopia) with hints of the paranormal and some of the most powerful prose you’ll ever read. Swamplandia takes its name from a family-run Everglades roadside attraction, operated by an Ohio family pretending to be the last remnants of an Indigenous tribe. Characters both dead and alive are so lovingly written, you want to climb into the novel and give them their happily-ever-after.
Susan B
2025-08-25 04:05:40 +0000 UTCMy favorite lesser known author is Phil Tucker, specifically his Chronicles of the Black Gate series. Otherwise, I'll give most scifi/fantasy books a chance.
punkrockpollyanna
2025-08-25 02:11:10 +0000 UTCAdding my supreme love of The OA. My fave mainstream authors are Robin Hobb, Brandon Sanderson, (and my guilty pleasure) Sarah J. Maas.
punkrockpollyanna
2025-08-25 02:09:25 +0000 UTCA single favorite book feels almost beyond possible for me to pick, but right now I'll choose Tyehimba Jess's OLIO. Completely shook up my whole conception of what a book could do or be

2025-08-25 01:56:01 +0000 UTCIt's really cool!! I was super upset when Netflix cancelled it after season 2. Season 3 was going to slam! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 🤗

2025-08-24 23:52:24 +0000 UTCA book I return to often is A Prayer For Owen Meany. I honestly can’t even articulate why, but I read it once every year or so. Looking forward to these shows with you, Frank!

2025-08-24 21:41:04 +0000 UTCGreat schedule!! 👍 excited to rewatch Shogun (so good) and The OA (amazing!). Do you mean you're adding 2 shows in addition to what we see here, or are they already included? Just clarifying my confusion. "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "IT" are my favorite books. Odd coupling, but they both have something in common that I LOVE -- coming of age themes. I've read them both countless times. I'd love to list more books (because English teacher), but I shall refrain. I would recommend a book to you, Frank. I also recommended it to FoxTaco after his reaction to "Boyz n the Hood": Jason Reynolds' "Long Way Down". incredible 👏 🌟🔥🙌 You can probably read it in an hour or less, but it's so powerful.

2025-08-24 18:06:10 +0000 UTCabout the question 😔 I'm not a reader AT ALL. i don't have adhd as far as I know, but somehow holding a book in my hands and reading (especially if i don't know anything about it and need to go through the exposition and learning about the characters) is like - i read a paragraph, then somehow skip through the next bc i don't think it's important, read further and three pages later i think there was smth important in that missed paragraph so i go back and reread the last four pages, and it's a nonstop circle of anxiety 😭 recently found out that somehow i actually digest the story when I listen to audiobooks. for now I finished the whole hunger games series and it's my favourite thing in the world, I'm just grateful it's the first written story i joyfully went through in years???? the newest book i listened in english, which is absolutely insane to me?? (it's not my first language) even though these books, in my opinion, are genuinely awesome, it's not so much the story i love but knowing that i can finally "read" before that, 7+ years ago i randomly consumed four or five stephen king's books and at the time my favourite was "The dead zone". i love how 99% of books i liked so far have some kind of capitalistic oppressor's fall/death 😇 i will definitely collect recommendations from these comments 🤌 and in manga i LOOVED "Kasane". i cannot believe it's not famous at all???? it had me at the edge of my seat the whole time. magical horror, slice of life, heartbreak, and LOTS OF THEATRE (i used to perform in a few plays as a teen, it was so cool to read about it). also a lot of self-discovery themes i can relate to. Just chef's kiss i will be watching all the shows and films for the first time along with you, gotcha 😂 much love 🌻

2025-08-24 17:56:24 +0000 UTCOh hell yeah man, what a week. I haven't seen Stand by Me in years and would definitely like to again. Also Shogun. Very exciting! My favorite current book series is Dungeon Crawler Carl. I went into it expecting something very different and less complex than what it is and I frickin' love it. It's also more fun than anything I've read in a long time. I've been reading and listening to it at the same time and the audiobook is insanely high quality. All time favorite is probably The Expanse, no surprise there. No spoilers but it has a character in it that was extremely and weirdly important representation for me. It seems I need to read more stand alone books because I can't think of a favorite.
Shane
2025-08-24 17:56:05 +0000 UTCLOL I actually squealed out loud when I saw The OA! Hope you like it! Anyhoo, Weekly question: I don’t really have a favorite book, but the one I've re-read the most is Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. I first read it when I was in my teens and the perspective shift between then and the second time a few years later is crazy. I feel like I get a different vibe from it every time I read it.
