about michonne letting the governor live, I think it’s a little bit of both, convenient writing because the governor is an important character, but also the way they chose to justify her actions, using Andrea, I think its a easy decision but also it makes sense, one of the things the made me angry about andrea, is the way she treated Michonne, a friend who saved her life many times, who was there for her, she’s not loyal, and I think Michonne is really hurt about that, but she doesn’t let it show. The way she looks at Andrea is heartbreaking, she’s badly hurt, and still andrea points a gun at her and protects the person who tried to kill her, so I think thats why Michonne doesn’t kill the governor, it makes sense that she’s not going to hurt Andrea, but it is a very convenient way to save the governor’s life.

your point about the soldiers is so valid, I never understood the idea the “making the hard decisions” is somehow always the most instinct driven and not well thought out. if you have a tough situation on your hands, you must think it through, like Dale said “a life is worth more than a 5 minute conversation”, planning, strategizing, planning to defend yourself in case something happens, thats a hard decision, because you have to think, to see all the scenarios, but just killing them is so easy, so I’ll never understand this idea. Just like Lori said to Carl before she died: do the right thing, don’t do the easy thing, in this world is so easy to chose the wrong path.

moon

I always had more of a problem with Andrea instead of Lori. Andrea just can’t stop stepping in it.

i was waiting for you to meet tyrese and sashaaaa they’re fantastic :) also chad coleman (tyrese/cutty) is in the expanse ;) he is a badass

Hey man i’m just sharing my opinion and what I was feeling in the moment

Franklin

I don’t get what you mean about it being uncharacteristic of Michonne not to kill the Governor. Cause obviously she tried to. But Andrea legit pulled a gun on her. She had the gun on her up to the point that Michonne left the room.

Pat McConnell

Honestly so terrible at writing women. The things he wrote that happened to Michonne in that town OMG!! I remember when I was reading it I asked a friend who was watching the TV show, "Ain't no way this really happens to Michonne in the actual show"

Franklin

Well said! You were able to say very succinctly exactly what my poor sleep-deprived adhd brain struggled to attempt to say in a comment like, 6x as long 😂😂

Jen Bee

I'm very excited Sasha and Tyreese are here!! You mentioned the differences between the show and the comics, and I have to say that the show does a way better job on so many things. I've been struggling to get through the comics because Robert Kirkman is terrible at writing women, but the show improves this a lot.

Michonne's pose is so ICONIC! I love her. I disagree with your thoughts on her not killing the Governor though - as satisfying as it would have been. Her reaction made sense; she was about to kill him, but then Andrea showed up and aimed a gun at her, displaying loyalty to him. Michonne was so hurt and betrayed that her friend would pick this man over her, her friend who helped her survive for months, and so she left - it's all she could have done in that moment.

Anya Smith

"What have YOU done?" Andrea said it all right there. Not What has he done. Andrea is such a fair weather friend. It's hard for me to believe she was a civil rights lawyer. I don't see any of the commitment that would take in her personality. Michonne: "Either way, you need me" One of the only moments in this show that I see her look like she's pleading. First watch I was so scared Rick was going to leave her behind. I have added "Dicknotized" to my vocabulary! 🤣🤣 Never heard that before but I have known some women who suffer from it.

Pam Copling

I’ve been waiting for Tyrese to pop up bc Dennis is one of my fav characters in the wire and ur reaction did not disappoint at all.

Matthew Arner

Shane glazers are loris biggest haters and they are the biggest hypocrites. Will fully blame Lori for them hooking up and villainize her for it but then conveniently forget that it takes 2 ppl to do that and of those 2 ppl only one of them came clean to Rick and ended it as soon as they found out he was alive. I only say this bc ur side note ab comparing Shane to Rick and Darryl which got me riled up lmao.

Matthew Arner

Oh my, yes, on the white male authority. I do not trust men in general ... very very few have earned my trust in life. And now, like Michonne, I can clock a person almost immediately --- esp men. It's an intuitive feeling that I've learned to trust implicitly. Whether right or wrong, it protects me.

Melissa

Yay! I finally caught up with the episodes! This is around the time I started watching the show originally and then I went back and watched seasons 1-2. It was interesting to be introduced to this version of Andrea or Rick and then see how we got here. Re: the scene with Michonne not killing the Governor, I can buy that because she's very practical. The standoff with Andrea was a shock but also a wildcard because I do think Andrea would have shot her. What I thought was weird was Michonne not saying anything to Andrea about being right about the Governor. It struck me as a hiccup in the writing and the directing. And one other thing I noted at the time was that the people who were more sympathetic to the Governor were generally folks that had been socialized to be more deferential to white male authority. Thus, they had an easier time sympathizing with him. As someone who tends to scrutinize white male authority, I clocked the Governor's game immediately.

courtru

I kinda felt that a little bit. Her leaving them to each other

Franklin

I see Michonne as someone deeply instinctive who follows through –meaning when the winds change she'll go ahead and change direction rather than stubbornly sticking to the course she decided before. I think two things changed her course with the governor: she got a more complete perspective on him and realized he's much sadder and weaker than he seemed, and Andrea stood up for him. Michonne cares more about Andrea than vengeance so she wasn't willing to go through Andrea to get to him. I got the sense that Michonne was maybe passing the torch to Andrea in a way? Like "okay, you want him, he's your problem now –and I trust you to see him for what he is sooner or later and deal with him accordingly"

melskmelsk

Honestly Frank I will say it again, please don't listen to the people who keep yapping on about the show super declining in quality over the years. All shows have their ups and downs. Of course there was a quality to the first seasons that remain unique to the first seasons, and I guess they're really isn't any reason for you to believe me over any naysayers, but there are so many goodies to come! I know I'm preaching to the choir, and that you will watch it no matter what, but I just want to reiterate not everyone believes that the quality of this show declined as much; I would say it ebbed and flowed. Nothing is static, and it's like people want something to remain exactly the same. The show evolved and explored many interesting things. The acting- in particular of the core characters- remained stellar. I am so happy to be joining you on this journey ❤️

1:57:57 And this is where you tell Andrea to fuck all. I was done with her after this & I feel the same way again. My only thought is that maybe seeing him hold his daughter reminds her of holding her sister. She sat all night with her sister until she turned. That's the only reason I can possibly offer. But with all the heads around her? Nah. Even with her sister trauma, that'd be enough for me. I suspect, too, that more than anything she just wants to feel safe and desired, and for better or worse (definitely worse!), he made her feel that way.

Melissa

Anytime Michonne pops on screen I always smile. She's my top fav character along with Glenn 🤭 I'm also really excited to see how long you last with the show. For me it was up and down, I did finish it tho but I have like 3 spin offs I need to watch XD

Fei

Those horrible scenes when Maggie is subjected to hearing Glenn being beaten and then with Maggie and the Governor and Glenn is forced to listen. Despite the torture Glenn took, he held his ground. But then the Governor steps in with Maggie and although he starts out with psychological torture with the threat of rape, he does not go through with it. I'm sure if it was Merle he wouldn't hold anything back from actually going through with it. But it is no wonder she eventually spills the beans when the Governor and Merle dragged her, still half-naked, in front of the beat-up Glenn and threatening to kill her boyfriend to make her tell all. Despicable!    I have always been confused about why Michonne didn’t realize that Rick and others  were the gang Andrea once ran with. Andrea had apparently shared a good deal about herself during their long time together. So why didn’t this sheriff called Rick ring any bells for Michonne? Andrea is a real motormouth and if you had spent months with her, it was surely inevitable that most of the time would be taken up with Andrea talking about and even griping about the old gang to Michonne because that is a part of her.    As you mentioned Frank, why didn't Andrea tell Milton about facts known from the CDC. That made me feel that whole scene was rather pointless and boring.   I've always wondered why both the Governor and Merle are shocked to discover that the prison, a location they felt was overrun by walkers and inhospitable, was cleared out by Rick's very small group. Were they just lazy or did they encounter the jail when they were less skilled at killing walkers.   Loved that brief insanity slippage where Rick has a hallucination that Shane is attacking the group.   I like that little Carl continues to be a hardass and proves he is learning well how to protect the group.    The Governor truly goes off the deep end when Michonne slays his undead daughter. Overall the Governor became a twisted bastard so it makes it very difficult for me to feel sympathetic as he weeps over his daughter Penny. Plus he has to put blame on others for his incompetence by claiming Daryl and Meryl are terrorists.  Andrea and the Governor have two things in common...both are horrible listeners and are not good at taking advice.   At this point I think the Governor is actually scared knowing that a small group overtook a prison and that makes them a threat and he now sees no amicable way to resolve this since he has already made threats to Maggie and Glen. After Rick's group attacked Woodbury he sees that they are a sizable force that could pose a threat to his town

KimM

It's all good. It's fine to disagree. But why assume the worst? The soldiers being armed doesn't mean they were bad people who would take over a town and kill everyone. Even from the story the pilot told us when he was being treated, they were all protecting that zone and protecting innocent lives before shit hit the fan. I don't see how soldiers who were protecting innocent lives and maintaining order would turn evil and brutalize a town overnight. The show has shown us many times that not everybody at the end of the world turns into a lawless barbarian. A lot of people still remain kind and considerate of others, like our group. Yes, people do hard things, but not everybody gives away their humanity. If our main group had that town to protect, I doubt that they would "shoot first and ask questions later". We've seen many times where our group assesses the situation first before resulting in violence. Remember what Dale said to Shane, "If I have to be like you, then I wouldn't want to live in this world." - Rick and the group still carry that spirit.

Franklin

So true. Like I said I'll keep going For as long as it entices me

Franklin

Agree to disagree about the soldiers. They were too armed, and he had a whole city to protect, of people who can't protect themselves. I don't think he is right overall but I can see how he justifies the actions to himself is all. Different people react differently to the impending end of the world...

Eboe Thrasher

That's a good perspective on her state of mind. Very valid. However, I can't shake the feeling that her knowing what a massive threat the governor is would have also been heavy on her mind. Considering she left the whole gang just to go confront him, but yes, what occurred with Andrea could have shifted her focus RIP oscar indeed. And yes it's quite interesting. It's almost like the show had to keep up its black character quota. Morgan leaves, We meet T Dog, T dog dies, Oscar comes up, Oscar dies now we have Tyrese and Sasha

Franklin

I totally forgot Cutty was in TWD, so I was as excited as you to see him again! :)

re: michonne not killing the governor - i totally get and share your sentiment of wanting him to die immediately but that moment made sense to me and never felt ooc, especially since we’ve only seen a layer of her character so far and it’s mainly been her abilities. if anything, i feel like the writers intent here was to encourage the audience to see her beyond that. considering the fact that she just fought for her life while already being injured, hasn’t had a moments rest since leaving woodbury + the one friend she thought she had is actively betraying her (again!!) after assessing the situation, deciding to go with “what have YOU done?” and to point a gun directly at her not even giving her the benefit of the doubt or showing any concern for her wellbeing …i would've walked away too. cause if not, what? use her last bit of energy to physically fight andrea (“friend” with a gun) to get to the governor? also risk getting captured by the rest of his people (potentially with andrea’s help)? idk, my girl was hurt in all ways physically mentally and emotionally you mentioned she could’ve easily disarmed andrea but altho she had every intention of killing him michonne wasn’t willing to hurt someone she loves to get to him. it wouldn’t have felt easy. maybe since we only got mentions of the time her and andrea shared together alone for 7/8 months it’s easy to forget what that bond means to michonne but as far as we’ve seen, andrea’s the only person left on earth she knows. so the confusion/hurt runs deep, she’s a woman of a few words but it's all over her face. ...not me defending twd writers (20yo me would be shocked lmao) but for what it’s worth, to me the show doesn’t start getting narratively challenged - to keep it cute lol - until much much later. only saying that because i wouldn’t want that apprehension to taint your experience of the show rn lastly, s/o and rip to oscar. i also had a feeling he wouldn’t make it. qwhite interesting how he died the moment tyreese and sasha showed up 👀

fara

Hey hey hey he doesn't need to hear about future stuff please.

Eboe Thrasher

My man, don't worry about what other people say. Enjoy it. What some people hate, some love. We all have differences of feelings and opinion.
