In regards to how Canada treated people who weren't white, I'm ashamed to inform you it wasn't good. We weren't as bad as some places, we had the underground railroad to help enslaved people escape America, but we were far from great. We still aren't. Especially where I live, there is still a lot of bigotry and mistreatment. As well, only recently have people and the government even started to acknowledge the wrongs that were done. Esspecially to our Indigenous peoples.

Yes for Mary and the laundry women!! Really a bright spot of the show. Bash is so smitten so immediately! The actor is amazing, he truly conveys how impressed and delighted he is with her. Also yay for Miss Stacy! So funny that she's your friend's doppelganger. Have you shown her? She's a great character to have a resemblance to! Like you, I see in Miss Stacy a grown-up Anne, and I also see how much Anne could learn from her. Because Anne still lives with such heightened emotions, where happiness is absolute extasy, but then any adversity is the pit of despair. And Miss Stacy is showing her that you can still be whimsical an unconventional, but have better regulation so that life doesn't throw your around. Such an important mentor for Anne!

Gah, I'm so late to this, we're almost at the next episode! But still, let me gossip here, because I do have a story of a(n almost) runaway bride! About 25 years ago I knew a couple who... well, I'll just say they deserved each other! He was truly awful, one of those loud, over-gregarious misogynists. He got rich from winning the lottery, and kept flashing his money around. The day of the wedding, legend has it that the father of the bride kept circling the church with her, saying "daughter, you can still run away; just say the word and I'll hit the pedal and help you escape!". Her own father was pleading her to run!! In the end, she did get married. But they divorced 8 months later. (I'll discuss Bash and Mary next, they deserve their own post!!)

My theory on Mr. Phillips trying to convince Prissy to not go to college is to make her as miserable as he would've been in this marriage 🥲 Internalised homophobia is insane. GOD I'm so excited for the rest of the show without Mr. Phillips ass. Mrs. Stacy is such a lovely teacher. It's insane that it was okay for Mr. Phillips to straight up abuse and bully his students, but mrs. Stacy is somehow the bad guy 🤨 Dumbasses. Loved Prissy being free, this pure joy and shared girlhood was just wonderful to look at. Cheered when Billy got his ass whooped, he had it coming i don't care. He's not five, he's conscious enough to fuck around and find out lmao. He's not abused at home, he has full and, i assume, wealthy enough family. He's a bully and sometimes bullies understand the same language they used to target others. Bash kills me every time. The actor (Dalmar Abuzeid) conveys such raw emotions with his eyes, I just can't. I wanted to hug him the whole time, just breaks my heart. That's one thing about this show that shakes me to the core more than anything else - how realistic it is to see in each and every episode how privilege affects one's daily struggles. It's extremely hard for me to care as much about pies and boys and school when this precious man is unable to get a fucking healthcare he needs. And congratulations on meeting MARYYYYY. THE GOAT. One of my absolute favourite characters, she's just the light of this show! I love her so much I'm tearing up a bit just writing this. Like mr. Louis du point du Lac once said "it was a cold winter and he was my coal fire". That's what Mary is for Bash. I've been absolutely vibrating for you to meet her 🥹 Bash got that magic rizz too, got me giggling kicking my feet 🤭 It's so lovely to be introduced to this wonderful community of black women, they absolutely own each and every scene they're in, I live for that. Thank you so much for your hard work, much love!! 🩵

"Get the other ear too!" took me out lmao

After Prissy and Mr. Man kissed and he felt nothing you could see the doubt seed into his mind..

Actually the first adult to go to Anne’s “hideout” was Josephine, Diana’s aunt.

It's definitely hilarious that Rachel thinks she's the liberal one. 😂

Sebastian has so much emotion in his eyes...I get emotional even when the scene ends up happy. 😭

I can speak much on black history in those days besides what the show is showing, but a common myth is that we had no slavery in Canada. There was, the difference is that it was mostly domestic (vs plantations) and mostly affected indigenous people, their treatment as a whole being our country’s darkest history.

Enjoying your insight as always

The scene with Prissy running from the wedding and dancing with the girls in the snow makes me tear up every time I watch it. It's so powerful.

Anya Smith

There is an earlier episode where Cole and the teacher have a small moment similar to that in the school, or better, we see the teacher having a moment about Cole's presence. It is really short but I think it is great, subtle foreshadowing/build up.

Hydra

Franklin, how chilling and exciting it is to see a doppelgänger!

THE WEDDING!! I still tear up everytime I watch it with this feeling of unbridled hope and joy for Prissy. Honestly, I remember when I still worked in hospitality and some of my older coworkers (in their 60s and 70s) would tell me the love stories of how they met their husbands and I had to bite my tongue from being like girl.....im sorry to say but you were lowkey groomed homie 😭

Lauren O'Loughlin

Since the day you announced you would be watching this I was couting down the days to seeing you watch the laundry scene with Mary and Bash :') One of my favourites! I also couldn't wait to see it even more after you mentioned in a recent previous episode wondering where all the black people are and what they're doing, we see this idyllic life in Avonlea and Charlottetown but there are presumably slums just out of eyesight, so I'm glad they actually started shining a light on that, man Bash brings so much to this show!! 😭

OOP, guess my day just got good!!
