big coward

Franklin

I tend to agree with you about pulling Shiv in to get her away from liberal politics and other possibilities.

Dude be the OG . . . A N he playin'

Melissa

Loved reading your analysis! So deep in the weeds and full of insight. Thank you for taking so much time to share your thoughts.

Melissa

This show is fascinating. I have an immediate reaction on most of what I see and read in terms of others' reactions, and it's intriguing to see how you and others interpret things differently. As always I appreciate your authenticity. The writing and acting do a great job of sympathizing with some terrible people, even when you kinda don't want to, and I enjoy immersive shows like that where you're able to feel things that are counter to your values (aw, poor character + manslaughter, lying and cheating, incredible amounts of waste and pollution, etc.). Specifically, I love studying the subtext of how these characters communicate, what their glaring weaknesses are, and why: what growing up this way has done to inform how they protect themselves -- and what they see as valuable. SUBTEXT There's a lot in what they don't say, and in the voice and tone they use, that is telling about their true intentions and motivations. Not only that, everyone is lying all the time or withholding information - especially in private moments where they're pretending to be honest! It feels like a very upper class way of moving, where charisma and subterfuge are time-honored skills. Plus I love the quiet moments we see where each of them feels hurt. They all do, and when it happens their acute loneliness silences all the insults, jabs, sarcasm, and bluffing. Despite their enormous wealth, the Roy family seem keen to aim for self-sabotage; they all have some sort of predilection for dissatisfaction. And a lot of it stems from Logan Roy. I don't know what the very first scene from 1x1 means yet. But particularly when I'm watching all the times Logan tests his kids (will they lawyer on this before signing even if it's from a trusted figure? will they be unserious: flippant and disloyal even to themselves, or pantomime the right things to say without standing behind their supposed convictions, go along to get along? will they stand up to abuse or yelling, or do they crumble like a wet cookie and let it derail their whole life? still not ready for anything, much less succession, yet...) is fascinating.

L TO THE OG!!!

ep7: i’m proud of shiv for standing up for herself actually tracking down logan and demanding answers instead of just retreating / pretending nothing happened as he seems to have conditioned them to do when there's beef. he's such a coward for avoiding to face her and his unwillingness to be truthful ep8: your (non)reaction to kendall's rap made me laugh 😬 second-hand embarrassement is real lmao also agreed s/o to marcia + ewan for making sure logan wouldn't get to appreciate his lil "empire of shit" plaque 💯

fara

on your comment about shiv being "named" ceo by logan, and him not ever having seriously considered her as an option; i always thought he only told her that because he saw shiv getting out (by "working for the enemy" aka anyone that's not him), and he knew dangling the possibility of becoming ceo was the only way to pull her back in under his control. from what i see so far in the show, he likes having them under him (kendall, shiv, roman) or "hidden away" as it were (connor)

Elias

Absolutely yes and yes

Franklin

Oh my goodness I am so here for it. I hope that's where the show goes

Franklin

very trump like

Franklin

So so Dreadful.

Franklin

😆

Franklin

I quote “My boy Squiggle cooked up this beat for me” way too often

N

episode 7 is when you truly understand why the kids are the way they are. Their parents are dreadful and here we see how both parents use their kids for their own games. Logan seems to dislike Kendall possibly getting a tiny bit of confidence back by daring to question his relationship with rhea, so he then makes him go to that house, emotionally messing him up again. He gaslights Roman on his violence. He’s taken Shiv’s independence from him / the company she’d built by dangling the prize to get her to quit and now has her running after him like his sons. It’s dreadful how toxic it all is, but it’s brilliantly written and acted.

N

God having those two as parents it’s a wonder none of the kids are serial killers. Big wire mother energy.

Valaree

When Logan says “family” he means pure loyalty and obedience from his children to him. It absolutely does not go both ways, he seems to feel he owes his children nothing, no love or loyalty or even basic respect.

Valaree

And even though it is so cringe, I have to give Jeremy Strong props for selling it so well. He really went for it. I laugh about this scene all the time.

Melissa

I'm so disappointed you didn't have anything to say about Kendall's rap -- it's so cringe. I was waiting with bated breath for you to laugh and dunk on him. 😂

Melissa

I have never watched this show I swear never. Hypothesis Rhea and her original employer only pretended to have her fired. She is a mole still and now has full control of what her original employer wanted and that is to destroy Logan Roy just a thought.

Laura Thate

LOVING your reaction to Marcia's fire at Rhea. It's soooo juicy. Also, just wanted to comment to make sure you caught the comment about Logan sending Connor's mom to the "booby hatch" = a place for the mentally ill

Melissa

Their mom is not emotionally available at all, really. I'm sure there's a lot of backstory we don't know; however, it's clear that she really doesn't want to know what it is Kendall wants to share. It really upsets me.

Melissa

SO EXCITED TO WATCH THIS IN A LITTLE WHILE!
