Hi Frank! It took me a while to get to your OFMD reactions what with moving and all but aw man… rewatching with you reminded me how much I love this show and your reactions. I first found you through your IWTV reactions (by the way hellOOO season 3 trailer?!), so to see you mention both that and Severance (another one I love and loved seeing you react to) here was so funny! It’s hard to explain how much this show has touched my heart… it’s weird because I started out in a similar boat to you with the sense of humor being ehhhh. My partner would always be watching OFMD and I wouldn’t pay attention but whenever s2 dropped I actually watched that first and then went back to s1. Ever since 2x1,2, and 3 dropped at once I’ve been hooked. That Kate Bush song/mermaid moment has me in tears every time. It’s such a perfect balance of heartfelt and silly, which really captures the essence of the entire show. I got deep in the OFMD fandom, the first one I’d joined for over a decade, and just fell so deep in love with the creators, fans, fan art, fan works, and the conviction behind these characters. As a queer woman, to see something so authentic and unapologetic, and have a creator like David Jenkins stand up for us and tell our stories, it was magical. Hearing how their budget got slashed for s2 made me really upset, and then the show getting canceled after the season barely wrapped up was devastating. That’s what’s hard about this finale - storywise it’s really wonderful and I’m so glad we were able to get what we got, but seeing how rushed they needed to make things (especially having seen endless BTS and all the effort that went into creation… and yet those will never be released on DVD for us to have permanently🫠) makes me so sad. While I’m grateful for what we got, what guts me is that they just wanted one more season to wrap things up and tell the story that they meant to tell, and I think as a writer that must kill Jenkins to not be able to release his story. He still interacts with fans and tries to keep things alive, but man, it’s a shame to have to be ok with proverbial queer breadcrumbs. It’s bittersweet because on one hand, it’s so heartening to see a creator fight so hard to tell our stories, but at the same time we have to watch that get shattered by corporate greed. HBO/Max has a super high cancellation rate, especially for queer shows, and it just breaks my heart that original queer content gets axed in favor of massive IPs like the new Harry Potter series they’re doing which is now a series blatantly headed by a giant transphobe. It’s also the fact that the HBO CEO used blatant lies to explain away the cancellation - “It didn’t have the numbers” they said, meanwhile S2 knocked it out of the park with ratings and both seasons sat at over 97% on Rotten Tomatoes the entire time. As David Jenkins still (and I mean still, as of yesterday in fact) says - “we had the numbers. Still do.” That’s the part that really kills most of us fans. Even if this wasn’t your favorite show ever, I know you can relate as a viewer because you feel things so deeply and take media seriously (thinking about IWTV Claudia here). And I love that. Anyway, sorry to rant. I really appreciate you reacting to this one and have so much respect for what you do here. Much love always. xo

The Buttons thing will almost certainly be a budget thing. If you notice lots of the characters disappeared for a few episodes in the series, they just come back. I think Buttons might be one of the more expensive as he’s fairly famous (for essentially a background character). They got their budget really slashed for this series which is think explains why (for me) it’s more uneven than series one.

Hi Frank, thank you again for reacting to my favorite show. To me it really was a perfect length and ending. It was all I wanted from it. I am aware that many people are angry about the death of Izzy and other things, I can´t be. Don´t get me wrong, Izzy Hands was one of my most beloved characters (Wee John, Frenchie, Buttons and Olu are among the others and that is hard to make a call on because there were sooo many more that were just great and lovable), but I do think they got the arc they wanted to do by saying good bye to Izzy in the end, since there is a lot of symbolism in the writing. To me it is just a joyous, hopeful story, told with a lot of love. :)
