Eve is so selfish. No way I'm telling the person who tried to kill my husband that they were unsuccessful...helloooo? I think this is the point I stopped watching the series originally

That is just so sad and creepy. Been jealous of the affection that your husband gives your own child. Especially when the affection is healthy and nurturing. wild. Now that you said it, should probably killed him or something

You're totally right. It's perfection. Balance

This is so good. That's by far one of the best matches for villanelle. She's totally Jinx. Even down to the fondness for her father.

I think the relationship between villanelle and her mother is so interesting. I don't think killing her mother would have brought her any peace but I do think she wanted to save her step-brother from him. She can't change who she is nor could she save the child version of herself but she could save him.

You know I'm rewatching this with you at the same time I'm rewatching Arcane with another reactor and Villanelle and Jinx are kind of kindred spirits. Both traumatized in some way as a kid and found purpose in all the wrong places. Given the right guidance and love they would have had such different lives despite their nature. Villanelle is almost more tragic -- she didn't have loving parents that were taken away from her she never had it to begin with. I guess maybe her dad...I always assumed her mom got jealous of villanelle (she was a daddies girl and took all the fathers attention from the mom) so her mom dumped her at an orphanage. Villanelle seems to have fondness for him still. Villanelle is also stunted in childhood because of it with explains her childlike qualities -- same with jinx.

3x5 is such a masterful standalone episode, one of my favourites for sure. It's so heartwrenching to see Villanelle search for the grounded nurturing connection she's missing –try so hard to grasp onto even a hint of it– and come up empty. It's funny and poignant and dark and subtle in perfect balance. THAT LAST SCENE TAKES MY BREATH AWAY EVERY TIME

And the next episode start was great. Finally giving us what we were waiting for. And Eve was absolutely delusional. I love that you pointed out her mental health for that too.

Wow, you’re right. I thought the 3rd season would drop off. But that’s the best episode by far. The mom reminds me of those women who are jealous of their daughters getting affection from their husband. It’s messed up, but they see them as a threat. The whole “he gave you everything” but “he was scared you’d hurt me” didn’t make sense. Saying Villainelle didn’t laugh or cry, when she’d already said her dad was funny but her mom was mean. And how mom only kept the boys. I kept wondering if dad died by his own hand.
And I don’t think she wants to stop killing. She wants power and validation. To be taken seriously. She’s got all the money, so whats next? And the fact that the first scene in the next episode was with a good, then questionable mother was brilliant and subtle.
