I kinda see her as a baby Jo March from Little Women (and both real authors's lives even have some parallels!), and I think in both cases the past wasn't ready for an un partnered woman yet. Only as wealthy widows, though, like Aunt Barry here, or Aunt March in LW. Which reminds me of the most hilarious way Louisa May Alcott (Little Women's author) did the trope in her work: Alcott definitely loved women and not men romantically (there's some debate on whether Lou would even have been a trans man or a lesbian, but definitely not into men). On one book of hers, the protagonist is very very blatantly in love with her "best friend" who is a hat shop girl. This girl has a brother, who arrives from abroad, falls in love at first sight and, in the span of two weeks, they court, get married, the American Civil War starts, he enlists literally on their wedding day, and promptly gets heroically killed in battle, thus leaving Alcott's alter-ego as a very proper and respectable widow, who never even had to consummate the marriage and now can live with her sister in law as very very respectable "roommates"! I was laughing so hard at how decidedly unsubtle it all was.

We often dismiss older women's sexuality as some sort of myth. I'm glad that you talked about it at the end with how she did miss out on that due to her responsibilities towards her family. It seems like the only people who acknowledge older women's sexuality are the manipulator grifters/scammers, even nowadays with the catfishing online to extort money from older women. Sexuality for most is so shameful and when that is used against you it's even worse. Thank you for another amazing episode!

Bro my life would be so different (better) if i learned the meaning of shipping from you 😔 Even though I think differently - you’re still so real for shipping Anne and Jerry! I think they’re incredibly charming characters on their own, but together they’re just so fun to watch!! My unpopular opinion is I don’t ship Anne with anyone 😌 I’d love for her to prioritize platonic relationships as she grew older, seeing as she has been completely stripped of such relationships for the first 13 years of her life. Also i think she’s just too cool of a character, no one really matches her coolness for me. Yes, I’m saying this even though I was watching this show as it aired years ago. Ugh, Nate and Marilla’s moments made me audibly gag I’m not gonna lie. I’m so unused to seeing villains actually being villains and not just morally grey characters who happen to be antagonists. Nah, this dude is just evil and a bully. The way he’s tormenting Jerry makes me sick. And he’s not even fun to hate, he just creeps me out. Bleh. This whole situation is so unsettling to watch, seeing them creeping into Cuthberts’ lives is eerie. i’m also suddenly so happy to see Rachel grow on you 🥹 I completely forgot the 180 her character goes through during this show. Love that! Gilbert’s new friend is one of my top four favorite characters on the show 🤭 I can’t wait for you to watch what comes next!! Thank you so much for the hard work, much love 💚

That said, this is my least favorite episode, because of how unsettling it is to see those men intruding in their home, and their space, their safety, even their bodies and minds! Seeing how Anne is so unguarded and trusting, and how Marilla is so starved of affection. I never noticed how she reacts to touch until you pointed it out. The creators of the show definitely pay attention to every detail. And I love how you keep shipping French boy (can't remember his name now). They definitely would make an interesting pairing! You are close to convincing me, lol.
