It is true that Marie Antoinette never said "let them eat cake (brioche)". Some attribute it to Mme du Barry others to Louis XIV's wife, Marie-Thérèse, though it's very possible no one ever said it.

Great set up episodes for what's to come! I love Moira's pink wig and all of Alexis's school outfits. I also love the Alexis/David dynamic. They have such great sibling chemistry.
Hoping you feel better soon, Frank! Keep cuddling that cozy boy Squid.

I never noticed how much happens in these 3 episodes because they feel a little filler, and there's no immediate huge change in anyone's circumstances, but it's actually a lot! Moira gets attention from the industry, even though it doesn't pan out. Johnny shifts from keeping the motel running to trying to improve it. Alexis goes back to school - the most normal thing a person can do. And David decides to create a new work opportunity, rather than just going for what's already on offer, like with bagging at the supermarket.
It's least obvious for Moira at this point, but I LOVE how the show highlights both the considerable strengths the Roses already had when they arrived, that they weren't just a punch line, and what they gained from their time in SC.
Alexis really is all that, a stand-out, a natural it-girl, and most importantly, she always puts herself out there, goes after what she wants, nervous but undaunted. Imo, what changed isn't her determination, or even her commitment to follow through, but what she considers worthwhile goals.
David really does have taste, and a very strong drive to implement his vision. And now, he's operating in the real world, rather than a bubble his parents maintain for him. Maybe that didn't work out perfectly with the blouse barn, even though he lucked out in the end. But still, it was a real business, not a vanity project, and now he's investing his own limited funds, rather than what he did before, just spending what might as well have been monopoly money to him - actually, he probably would have cared more, if it had been.
Johnny really does have expertise running a business, and he is motivated; not just to maintain the status quo, but to level up. I think what differentiates this new project from his other attempts, like the milk thing, is that neither the motel, nor Stevie, are random. He is already invested in them, and they, in him, and I think he needs that.
In terms of what he's learned, the show never goes into what exactly went wrong before, beyond the joke set-up of, their accountant didn't take care of the taxes. But from how he immediately takes charge of the books, at the motel, it does seem to me that he must have been pretty checked-out from the day-to-day for that to have happened? Also, seems like maybe he's not a great judge of character? Because if so, having a partner who actually does have his back, and is way more wary, might be just what he needs.

I love how they start and finish every episode in a motel as a family. ** Also when I start binge watching this show, I start from s3 ep.8 😍😂 so I'm super excited for the next time!
