damn grandma 😂😂😂 relatable

Franklin

I love scary movies. I would call this more of a thriller. No doubt in my mind if I'd wandered off as a child and decided not to talk, my grandma would have smacked the silence right out of me.

Pam Copling

🤣🤣 this made me laugh out loud. Because 100% WTF

Franklin

You and I are the same person coz the first time I watched Us, I ALSO almost bailed out the moment I saw the family in the driveway coz??? HELLO??????? I'm glad I persevered, but I was literally so upset that this movie was going to be actually scary

Wanzi

Finally managed to sit down and watch this! I can't believe you nearly dipped out as soon as you get to a slightly spooky bit 😂 This is such a weird, unsettling movie but so well done and the end is just perfect! Love that you stuck it out, your reactions were worth it :)

AngryGreen

I got to have my own back sometimes🙏🏾😁

Franklin

How could you do this to us makima?😭💔 reze, power, aki???

Franklin

Good heavens, sorry to hear that. Yeah sometimes it hits way too close to home, especially when you least expect it

Franklin

Yeah that's response was pretty wild to me. But like you said she never told him and we do see why omg that waste is still crazy

Franklin

Good reads on it, and true, it's still fun watching with just showing off the brain

Franklin

Can't wait for my second watch

and 1:16:35 is the point at which I realized I was watching a WHOLE different movie than the one I THOUGHT I was watching!

This movie doesn't get talked about as much as Get Out and Nope, but it is so, so worth watching for Lupita's performance and that final fight scene with the string version of I Got 5 On It playing over it, interspersed with the ballet. Gorgeous! I love a good dark double trope when it comes to horror, so I loved this movie, even if I didn't fully understand it the first time I watched it.

You should put a spoiler warning at the top a d leave some empty space for those who haven't seen this movie since you basically gave away the entire plot here...

I def didn’t get this one on my first watch. But watching it here again is eye opening. I think it suffers from like. Cupcake with too many toppings haha it’s just hard to eat. But at the core it feels like a story about masking. And about the damage that masking does to us. Trying to be something we see on tv. Or be the person we think our coworker is because we’re jealous of them. When we tell ourselves “hide this YOU. Be this other YOU to fit in”. The scene where she’s talking to her husband early on about what happened on the pier is WILD on second watch haha. Her voice changes a little and everything.

OH LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO

alex !!

At 7:17, I said out loud “breathe Frank!” right before you said it yourself 😆 Why do we hold our breath when we are stressed even though it doesn’t actually calm us down??? Bodies are so weird.

Us is a brilliant movie, it’s gets even better rewatching it and the foreshadowing is crazy in this film haha. Lupita does a phenomenal job acting in this. The ending scene with Minnie Ripertons Les Fleurs is one of my favourite scenes, as well as seeing the tethered underground. I googled it and Jeremiah 11:11 reads: "Therefore thus says the LORD: I am about to bring disaster on them which they will not be able to escape; though they cry out to Me, I will not listen to them."

Lailaaa

This is definitely one of those that gets better with every rewatch, soooo much foreshadowing for everything

Anait

A rewatch did not help me. I think there are maybe some mixed metaphors going on here which is what’s making it so difficult to pin down. Something about being born into a class, and that dictating the limits of your potential. Something about rising up to destroy your oppressors only to repeat their mistakes once you have power. Something about escaping the cycle of poverty by becoming a class traitor. I’m not sure the metaphor is totally coherent, but the movie is really interesting and sufficiently creepy even if you just take it as a straightforward nice family vs creepy basement doppelganger horror.

Valaree

"i dont feel like myself" "you look like yourself" i think that is such great storytelling, because it not only highlights how the mc is losing herself and having self-identity issues, but also how her husband sees her, or not sees her, because he thinks everything is fine but doesnt quiet GET what his wife is going through because she never told him. And we see why she never told him.

This movie is really hard for me to watch. I saw it once in theaters and never again. The main family reminds me so much of my family, specifically my younger brother and sister and my parents. The anxiety I felt watching it was indescribable.

Joined the patreon for this!!! I couldn't resist

Franklin, you're so adorable, psyching yourself up to keep watching the movie when it gets too scary. It's definitely got more terror-type moments than Get Out or Nope!
