Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves | Full-Length Reaction

Amazing movie!

Comments

A fun way to look at this movie is through the lens of an actual D&D campaign and a possible explanation of the very convenient staff could have been the players just screwing up the puzzle and the DM(the person running the world and npcs) scrambling to figure out a way to let them continue. also the fat dragon is a cannon dragon in faerun, one of the worlds of dnd.

Thank you for the invitation brother. I didn't even know people could play online. I'm sure I can cook up some stories

Ya know, Frank, anytime you wanna try out some D&D let me know. I run games already, and would be more than happy to have you at my (virtual) table.

as a dnd enjoyer, i adore this movie! there're so many references to the existing lore, but similarly a lot of references to how the game is played! even failed heists like you mentioned, can be because players rolled poorly — and xenk himself is more likely an npc created by the dm to aid the players in the campaign, hence why he leaves halfway. overall i'm glad you had fun with the movie! i totally agree that sincerity and commitment to the world & to emotion, isn't very common nowadays, especially in fantasy/sci-fi action movies. so it's always genuinely heartwarming to watch a movie that loves the world it's in. thanks for the great reaction!

Love this movie! There are do many fun little references to what playing the tabletop game feels like. D&D is a game about writing stories as a group. Often it’s a lot of amateur writers, so you will end up with some cliche stuff. That magical staff you picked up earlier in the story? Better believe that will be the exact item you need to complete a puzzle later. That complex puzzle you spent five nights planning? One of the players will accidentally find an easy way to do it, or they’ll break the whole thing, or they’ll kill the character you built a whole storyline around. I love how they incorporate “bad writing” in a way that feels loving - they’re not making fun, they’re celebrating that these little plot devices keep things moving and it doesn’t have to be that serious. Yeah, Simon has the super convenient teleportation staff, but it’s cool! It looks neat, and saves us from a lot of boring “realistic” stuff. We’re having fun here.

Can't wait to dive in for another fun reaction! You're quickly becoming my new favorite reactor Frank, keep up the great work!

I love grimdark fantasy and all that but we need more movies like this that are just fun and smart. It doesn't need to be hella edgy. I wish it did better in theater so we would be guarenteed another. We'll just have to hope some movie exec will pull their head out of the butt long enough to let them have another go at it. The writer/director team for this also did the first Tom Holland Spider-Man (Homecoming) and another sleeper comedy movie called "Game Night" which is hella good. Seriously Frank, add it to your list, you won't be disappointed. Also, it will be another lighter movie to watch since you have so much heavy stuff on deck. You be getting intense in your Wire, Hill House, and Hannibal uploads. Gotta balance that out.

Fantastic, as usual, and I appreciate you, my dude, for your well thought out reaction as always.

Yay! I'm so glad you liked this one! On random occasions, I'll just yell out "Oh Jarnathan!" in that distressed old lady voice, just to make myself laugh.

Tanya

This was amazing! I love fantasy that is done well and this is a 10 out of 10. I got to watch it with my 12-year-old granddaughter. We are cuddled up with my old cat and she thinks you’re wonderful Franklin! Thank you for a wonderful evening many blessings to you as always.❤️

Laura Thate

So many D&D characters named Jarnathan after this film hit.

Moon Brooke

Oh this is going to be good!!!!

I love this movie so much, instant classic

Literally just sat down to eat and saw this. Lets gooo. :D LOL You missed a funny scene mid-credits. It isn't important but just a silly moment that's a bit of a callback.
