Sci-Fi TV shows🌌

I've been thinking about adding some Sci-Fi tv shows to my list. Already have shows like Dark, The Leftovers, Severance, The Walking Dead etc on my list. Let me hear some of your favorites. Preferably shorter ones✌🏾

Sci-Fi TV shows🌌

Comments

I must try to interest you on my favorite tv show The 100. Basically it's kind of a dystopian scifi-fi about survival. The show follows these people who survived 'the end of the world' by escaping to space and now they have to return to earth, but they aren't sure if it's survivable so they send 100 juvenile criminals to kinda check it out. In the beginning it's kind of a teenagy show and a bit cringy but it is so good. Especially seasons 1-4. It has seven season but I personally don't like seasons 5-7. I don't know if the show the kind you'd be interested in. The characters evolution in the show and the moral problems they have to face are really interesting. But anyway your reactions are amazing because you really think of everything and appreciate the shows fully.

Anna

eureka is sooo good its a bit older and a bit long but soo worth it

a____._.

Definitely watch Sense8 on Netflix. Also Black Mirror.

Qiana Hill

Love Stranger Things so much!

ArcAngel

apple+ has truely has some of the BEST scifi these days tbh. shows like silo or foundation are so socio-politically complex and interesting.

Kimia

cant wait for this show to come back. i keep thinking about it

aura aurify

I recommend "The OA". Incredible show with so much food for heart, mind and soul. It has been cancelled after Season 2 but the journey is still more than worth it. I also would be so excited about Dark and The Leftovers. <3

Hydra

Bodies, it's on Netflix I think? Set across different timelines in London; it settled my need to rewatch Dark for the 5th time 😂. This was great, I've not seen it on this rec list so far? Maybe because it was mainly a British production and I'm not sure if if it's on Netflix US?

AngryGreen

The Leftovers and The Expanse

aura aurify

A lighter hearted SciFi series, Eureka!

E.Shelby House

Castle Rock and the Outsider! both are Stephen King miniseries 😊💜

☆Novah☆

I'd also add Black Mirror to the list.

Noct

I'd Suggest Farscape. It's only 4 seasons + a miniseries (2 movie length episodes). It's a whole lot of fun. It has flawed characters who grow and change through the series along with good mix of humor and drama.

THOMAS SPIVEY

I dont know if its considered sci-fi but ARCANE :)

Akaash Sidhu

Well since you mentioned “Walking Dead”…. I suggest “Kingdom” on Netflix, it’s my favorite zombie show/movie due to its perfect, unique blend of sci-fi/horror and historical fiction(it’s set in the Joseon Dynasty, which reigned for about 500 years until the start of the Japanese occupation of Korea in 1910). It’s split into two seasons with six episodes each, so twelve episodes in total.

Markatta

Recommended DontDrinkTheLuminol's choice of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Quite short series of only 2 seasons, 31 episodes in all but quite compelling TV spin off the Terminator films. You got Lena Headey as one of the main character, Sarah Connor.

Astor

For a short watch of 12 half-hour episodes, I can't recommend Scavengers Reign enough. It's a gorgeously animated adult show that's seriously some of the best science fiction of the decade, in my opinion.

Ress

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles!!!

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Co-signing all the Leftovers, Andor, and Severance recommendations!

Nikki G.

Can't be anything else then The Expanse - probably one of the best sci-fi series ever created in my opinion! Also, I don't know if it can really be qualified as science fiction, but Sense 8. It truly was ahead of it's time and masterful story telling.

Bonnie

the magicians is insane and also peak

Nyfe of closegood

Well, I don't know if you have watched it but my favourite Sci-Fi show was and still is Babylon 5 (1993-98). This was a pre-planned 5 year story arc with a beginning, a middle and an (emotional) ending completed with well developed characters. Though not short as you wished. It ran for 5 22-episodes seasons, plus the pilot film 'The Gathering'. There were also 5 TV-movies, 1 season spin-off 'Crusade', 1 direct-to-DVD movie and 1 animated movie released last year. As Noct mentioned, The Expanse is kind of a modern incarnation of Babylon 5. I also recommend Noct's mention of Andor & 3-Body Problem - all short series.

Astor

Battlestar Galactica!

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Being Human was great!

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Andor is a must-watch, along with Firefly, The Expanse, and Three Body Problem. As for things more off the usual stuff for your channel, anime like Steins;Gate, Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost in the Shell, and Cowboy BeBop are must-watches.

Noct

Foundation.

Mel8235

Make room in the problem boat for me also bc I just finished my third Fringe watch in Oct lol I just recently learned of Devs and haven’t watched yet but I trust the person who recommended it to me

Gaux

I never liked X-files but love Fringe.

Myra

Oooh, I loved Being Human!

Lola Lirola

Such a good one-off, and you don't really need to know too much Star Wars lore!

Lola Lirola

Thank you for also recommending Devs! 🧡 I have watched Fringe from start to finish like 3 times -- even with 100 episodes. (I might have a problem. I guess I do skip some on rewatches.)

Melissa

Oh, I loved American Fiction. He's great in Westworld, too.

Melissa

AngryGreen I was ALL IN on 1899. I would still recommend it -- so unique and compelling -- with the caveat that it leaves us hanging. I honestly get angry when I think about them not giving it two more seasons and/or the writers for not negotiating from the jump that they could take it elsewhere if Netflix didn't want it after S1.

Melissa

I really enjoy Silo. Pacing (S2 esp) can be a problem, but that won't be as frustrating on a binge.

Melissa

Oh, Andor! 🧡

Melissa

Yeah, I get that.

Melissa

Loved this so much, it had so much potential, I'd pay for a book to have the story rounded off. I feel like it fell into the 1899 bag, and just didn't have the hype they wanted so it got cut. Sad times.

AngryGreen

Definitely. I rewatch it every now and then just because I love all the characters so much. Including Alex and Hal and Tom. Just realised it has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes too which is impressive

Kim D

Being Human is full British humour and life on display, I feel. Aiden Turner was great, but Russel Tovey was consistently hilarious. The trios dynamic was so well done!

AngryGreen

Here to basically second what others are recommending! Severance The Leftovers Andor Firefly And I saw someone recommend V the 1980s show, and omg I have such great memories of it! So clever, poignant and still holds up today!

Lola Lirola

I'm just about to start Silo. Really looking forward to it. Looks amazing

Kim D

Maybe you've already seen it but if not, Stranger Things. Cannot wait for the final season which is on its way. And a British BBC show called Being Human which is about a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf who live together and try their best to live human lives. It's old now and the special effects for the werewolf are pretty cheap but the acting, the themes and the characters are just brilliant. I think you'd really enjoy it. It can be quite emotional too. They did make a US version too but I never watched it and I'd always recommend the original anyway 🙂

Kim D

Absolutely love Moon and Ad Astra ❤️ Sunshine is also an underrated sci-fi movie in my opinion

Kim D

Without having read your comment before, these two are also exactly my suggestions. 😊

Myra

Shows: Battlestar Galactica (2003-2009). Absolutely great. Fringe If you are also considering movies: Archive Ad Astra Moon Inception The Beast (2023 from Bertrand Bonello)

Myra

Sci fi is not my genre of choice, but I can vouch for Fringe being fantastic - not short and sadly won't bring in a lot of viewers on YouTube, I think. I've heard great things about Severance and The Expanse though - would be down to watch those with you. Firefly is beloved, but I've never been a Joss Whedon fan myself - it still has a core fanbase though, I believe.

Yara Kaas

So last of us is already seen? 😭. Omg that would have made an amazing Frank-style reaction...

ArcAngel

"Firefly" is great and short...and if you like it, there's a movie which acts as a grand finale (kinda) called "Serenity"... Its so good. "Farscape" is great (but not short). One of my favorite shows EVER is "Last of Us" which is short..plus the next season is due soon (spring 2025) so it would be great timing since the ads for "Last of Us" season 2 will surely be out soon. Oh...and "Stranger Things"! If you haven't seen it? I should imagine "Last of Us", with the impending S2 release on HBO could be great for views, if timed right (if that matters). ❤

ArcAngel

The Expanse is in my opinion the best realistic sci-fi show of the last decade. There are 6 seasons but the 3 firsts are incredible and can stand alone. A little slow to start but then it's fireworks all over. The cast is amazing, even the one episode actors. A lot of interesting themes developed as well.

Eosss

Sense8!~

alee

Sense8! Also Orphan Black and Farscape but they are not so short

Sruppa

Couple of short shows I've seen people mention and agree they could be good: - 11.22.63 is a good single-season scifi miniseries from a number of years ago that I've never seen any reactors do - Silo is a new series in its second season now that is really excellent and (so far) under-reacted to.

Dor

The OA is amazing, but due to the cancellation and ending I dislike recommending it.

Moon Brooke

Severance, Silo, Foundation, Fringe, 3 Body Problem, and Supacell.

Nikki B

Some of my favorite shorter Sci Fi shows Utopia 11.22.63 Watchmen The Stand (1994) V (1983-1984) Pluto (2023) Serial Experiments Lain

Moon Brooke

Anthony Hopkins was at his absolute vintage best in Westworld. Jeffrey Wright was, to me at least, a new discovery. (I was thrilled when he won his Oscar last year for American Fiction.)

Susan B

I’d say Westworld can be fully enjoyed in two seasons - or as just the first season, which many people thought ended the story perfectly. I loved both early seasons. I try to convince people to think of Season 3 as the lame sequel. Both 1 and 2 of Westworld had slam-dunk finales, and if they hadn’t added more seasons Westworld would be considered a perfect limited series. That cast, dammit! What an ensemble.

Susan B

Westworld is, above all, a meditation on what it means to be human. Like all the best sci fi, it’s less about its apparent premise than it is about humanity.

Susan B

Truly the most mind-bending two seasons of television in decades. Watching Anthony Hopkins and Jeffrey Wright as scene partners was a master class.

Susan B

I saw it many years after it originally aired, and I nagged every emotionally intelligent person I could think of into watching it. The Leftovers PLEASE!

Susan B

Have you seen Twin Peaks? Otherwise, Dark and Severance are both great. Westworld is amazing for one season, OK for the second, and then it falls off a cliff.

Valaree

I would also recommend Sense8, just be aware of the TV-MA rating lol If you are open to anime recommendations, I would recommend Paranoia Agent, Ergo Proxy, or Gundam Wing. I believe another commenter, Miki, also recommended the Memories 1995 movie, which I would like to second. Look forward to whatever you pick next!

Chu

Hell yeah. One more reason to have complete faith in your taste. xD

Shane

I can't think of any short ones, but as far as favorites go... Westworld Fringe Resident Alien Star Trek: Strange New Worlds The Orville The Expanse Stargate

DimSom

What about The OA?? Anyone?? I loovvveee it.

Melissa

I can't believe I forgot about Westworld! Incredible show!

Jenny Jackson

Its an incredible show that is so underrated in my opinion!

Jenny Jackson

I LOVE Walter Bishop!!

Jenny Jackson

Fringe is Bad Robot/J. J. Abrams. Firefly is Joss Wheadon I think

Gaux

Firefly!!!

Elizabeth Schnitzer

+1 For All Mankind

Gaux

That’s my man right there fr

Syd

Will you accept awesome sci-fi shows canx too soon; like no ending but still worth the watch? Sci-fi is a top genre and sooo many stellar ones named already. The final poll is gonna be diabolical lol. Devs (2020. 1 season; 8 episodes) Severance (2022. 1 season; 9 episodes. S2 starting Jan 2025) Dark Matter (2024. 1 season; 9 episodes) Maniac (2018. 1 season; 10 episodes) Undone (2019. 2 seasons; 16 episodes) (animated) Foundation (2021. 2 seasons; 20 episodes. S3 mid 2025??) Just good sci-fi but maybe on the medium to long scale: Continuum (2012. 4 seasons; 42 episodes) 12 Monkeys (2015. 4 season; 47 episodes) Orphan Black (2013. 5 seasons; 50 episodes) Expanse (2015. 6 seasons; 62 episodes) Fringe (2008. 5 seasons; 100 epis)

Gaux

I agree with Firefly

Sy

1889 was brilliant, so Netflix canceled it after only one season of course. Orphan Black was epic but it's a bit longer at five seasons. Seconding Firefly, Devs, Battlestar Galactica.

Amanda Winstead

Firefly!

Alva

That’s more horror than sci-fi, I think. Not seen or even heard of it before.

Christina H

Resident Alien. Hilarious!

Christina H

The expanse

Marcus Shaddy

Alice in Borderland

Collete L

Sense8!! It's on Netflix

Apai

if you're okay with a bit dated animation style I highly recommend "Memories" I watched it on prime I'm sure it exists elsewhere but this is what popped into my head when you mentioned scifi. its technically a movie but its like an anthology comprised of 3-4 parts so you could split it up into episodes for the channel since they don't correlate with one another

Miki

Sense8 (Netflix) and Torchwood (BBC?) are good.

X Jae

Have you seen sense8?

miranda

I think Black Mirror is one of the best things I've ever watched on Netflix

Franklin

That's my shit right there

Franklin

I believe the same people behind Firefly are behind Fringe?? Can someone confirm?

Melissa

It is soooooo good. And although they did make several more seasons, the first season is a perfectly told story. No more was needed imo. Season 2 wasn't terrible but it felt like it was overcomplicated for no reason.

Holly Robertson

Walter Bishop is the GOAT for sure

SeeJay

I've never heard of The Orville. Hmmmm. Will look it up

Melissa

Everybody who have seen it absolutely loves it

Franklin

One of my favorite TV characters of all time is in Fringe -- Walter Bishop played by John Noble. 🧡

Melissa

If you ever do get around to Doctor Who, start with the 2005 revival. Then you are down to "only" 188 episodes 🤣

SeeJay

It's worth it. It has mystery of the week episodes, but there's an overarching story that carries through each season -- like the X Files does.

Melissa

Nanami😭

Franklin

Absolutely love arcane

Franklin

Mine as well!! What I wouldn’t give to hear your thoughts on it! I know it can’t be an initial watch reaction but if you ever wanted to rewatch and add commentary I would be beyond excited.

Alex Harris

🙌

Melissa

I get it. 🤷‍♀️ I just got excited.

Melissa

Honestly same

Franklin

Everybody says it's really good. I'll put it on a poll for sure

Franklin

Arcane would be amazing

miranda

Funny you mentioned that. A while ago I was so intrigued by the idea of the show that I attempted to start watching it. Holy shit I couldn't even start because of the length of it

Franklin

Arcane got to be of my favorite TV shows of all time

Franklin

Arcane

Syd

I'm locked in

Franklin

That's my wife and my favorite show. We watch it all the time

Franklin

I can't watch six shows at once. I would love to watch it sometime soon

Franklin

Severance, I’m BEGGING.

Amanda Hill

He's always good in every project

Franklin

I loved altered carbon when it came out. Good shit

Franklin

Keep hearing this. Good to know

Franklin

Thanks for that info

Franklin

I've also heard good things about The Exorcist tv show, and as a bonus it stars Ben Daniels (i.e. Santiago from IwtV)... but I have been too chicken to actually watch it, so I don't think this technically counts as a recommendation.

Leticia

Absolutely love the games and the TV show was excellent

Franklin

I love Black Mirror

Franklin

Dark is amazing and as a german I love when people discover actually good german stuff 💯

Schniien

I think Black Mirror would be a good one if you haven't seen it.

James Hannon

Firefly. One short season plus a movie that wraps the story up

Claudette

For All Mankind, Firefly, The Middleman, Star Trek: The Original Series.

Chris Saguisag

Agreed. But it still did a fairly decent job and entertained me its whole run until the bitter end.

Davanae

Arcane 100%!!!

sierra's reaction corner

How about Black Mirror? It's an anthology series, meaning each episode is like its own short story. Most of the episodes satirise a current social issue via some kind of sci-fi dystopia. From the UK, 27 episodes (but you can watch just some in any order since they are unconnected - lots of people start out watching a "best of" episode to see if they vibe with it), and I think it's on Netflix in the US (though it's hard to be sure about that from outside the US).

Leticia

It's an awesome post apocalyptic show!

Melissa

Severance!!! It’s a great one, and alsooo The Orville!! The Orville is one I never see people react to and it’s a shame because the talking points are just ACE!

Michaela B

THE LEFTOVERS!! That show impacted me so deeply.

Melissa

PS: I'm really excited at the possibility of sci fi shows. It's my favorite genre.

Shane

I quite liked Dark Matter, but the book far exceeded it I think. The TV series seemed to try and eek it out a bit too long?

AngryGreen

I love Fringe, but it's def not short. Lol. It's one of my fav shows of ALL time.

Melissa

If I remember correctly he's watching this one with his wife, so off the table for us. They gotta have some shows for them, I guess, lol.

Shane

Westworld Season 1?

Melissa

"Fringe" (100 episodes over 5 seasons) "The Leftovers" (28 episodes over 3 seasons). I was going to recommend Doctor Who but given that's the world's longest running sci-fi show there's probably too many episodes 🤣

SeeJay

Arcane is perhaps more fantasy than sci-fi but definitely has sci-fi elements all throughout it! It is two seasons, completed, with a total of 18 episodes! I cannot recommend the show enough!

Alex Harris

The Expanse! One of my favorite shows of all time. I'd really appreciate my 2025 rewatch being with you. xD

Shane

I posted this previously, but what about reacting to various episodes of "Black Mirror"? We could vote on episodes and you could react to like 5 or something? Just a thought.

Melissa

Yes, I loved The Last of Us.

Susan B

Severance is one of the best shows i've seen ever, it's insanely good, and it's only one season (9 episodes I think) so far! Season 2 comes out on Jan 17! It's super cerebral, I think you'd love it

Neoxie

I'd love to see any of these! I'd definitely recommend Fringe and Battlestar Galactica as well!

Jenny Jackson

Just saying that if you started Severance Season 1 next week and did three episodes at a time (9 total), you might be able to finish it for when Season 2 starts on Jan. 17. I mean . . . I promise it's worth it. :) :)

Melissa

Gotta be The Leftovers Also the first two seasons of Westworld, which are self-contained so no need to bother with the inferior later seasons.

Susan B

Oh without a doubt you gotta react to WESTWORLD. Check out trailer: https://youtu.be/9BqKiZhEFFw

chris scalercio

DEVS!!! Starring Nick Offerman -- limited series of only 8 episodes.

Melissa

1. Fringe. 2. Dark Matter. 3. Babylon 5 4. The Orville 5. Firefly 6. Falling Skies 7. Stargate. 8. The Ark. 9. Farscape…there are so many under so many different sub-genres to choose from! Good luck!

Davanae

Altered Carbon is AMAZING and only 2 seasons. It's one of my favorite sci-fi shows ever (as a huge sci-fi fan). I actually referenced it with friends earlier so it's funny you have this question out now. I also really love Battlestar Gallactica (2004) but it's 4 seasons. Lots of mystery and intrigue so would recommend it in general. 💐

sparkle

The Expanse is one of the best Sci-FI shows, if not the best shows, of all time!

laluneodyssee

Firefly is one season and has a pretty big following. It got canceled midway through its first season run, but when it was released on DVD got mega-popular, so they capped off the story with a movie. It's 14 episodes and a film. The Expanse is more modern, quite good, pretty popular, but longer - 6 seasons of 10-14 or so episodes each.

Dor

Battlestar Gallactica! ❤️ Me and my partner watch it once a year!

Helene Ring Teppan

The last of us, is 9 episodes in season 1. It is great. 100% would recommend it. Excellent series
