But your reactions are so thoughtful and insightful that something in my gut told me to subscribe. And you bringing up the misunderstood characters that receive unnecessary hate...I said Jenny right before you did, and Skyler? Absolutely yes. I've been loving these reactions and those comments right there, without a doubt confirmed my gut was right. I'm looking forward to continuing to watch your reactions to this series...you're going to absolutely love it. As for Tahani, she's a phenomenally fleshed out, complex character. Without going into spoiler-territory (a cardinal sin for this show)...this early in the series, she's kind of intentionally a little unlikable, but Jameela Jamil (the actor) plays her SO well and puts so much heart into the performance that I think most people can't help but like her at least a bit. By the end of the show, I think she's pretty universally well-liked. I'm not super active in the fandom, but I haven't really encountered any hate for her. Maybe specific actions, but not the character as a whole, and that can be applied to pretty much any of the main characters. Because they're all complex (except maybe Jason haha) and well-written.

2025-01-06 23:07:19 +0000 UTCThe guy that plays Shawn described this show as 'the dumbest smartest show out there' and I think that there's a lot of truth to that. It can be pretty silly sometimes. You can easily get a Plato joke and a fart joke in the same episode lol. But really, it is asking the biggest questions in philosophy and life. What is really meaningful and moral about humanity vs the sometimes misguided cruel nature of it and its doing it via a comedic medium on top of the dramatic twists and turns. And I think all of the characters, including Tahani, really embody that theme. This is exactly why I thought you would love it when I tossed out my recommendation for it after Ted Lasso.

I am, however, super bummed and upset that when we finally got him in a big-time Marvel movie, it was in a crappy role in the 3rd Ant-Man movie that no one will ever watch or care about. He could have been the lead role in one of those films and knocked it out of the park.

2025-01-03 02:33:28 +0000 UTCSomething I am noticing on this rewatch of the show, and that I really love, is how the focus always stays *mundane*: All the charity grand gestures are mentioned as a joke, but the nitty gritty of how we treat people, the small actions in our everyday environment, and how they impact everyone else, as well as what's in our hearts, those are the points that really count. And you see it in the Bad Place people too: their terribleness is not fire and brimstone terror, it's the rudeness and the indifference and the disregard for how others are doing.

Mostly because I have know people like that, who constantly name drop and seek admiration more than connection, and their benevolent condescension gets on my nerves (not just women! I can tell you of a few men who did this). But something I love about this show is that the characters are never shallow, and gain new depths as episodes go on. Even now, I can see Tahani is so yearning for approval she never received from her cruel parents, is striving for perfection that was so expected of her that her good deeds were never noticed. She's so starved of real affection. But that's why her faรงade irritates me so much! I wish she could drop the act so she could be really loved.

Another character that is funny that I relate to is Moss from "IT Crowd." I definitely recommend to watch that show as well! Great humor all around. Also Jianyu calling Michael "dad" was so funny for some reason loll. He assumed a new father. XD Also Janet <3 Oh, also regarding Tahani's character - I don't remember how people felt about her character but the actress seems to rub people the wrong way in a similar way as the character. I don't know too much since I stopped most social media, I just remember seeing that she gets a lot of online hate for it. Regarding the character, I loved Tahani - she seems very self aware even if she sometimes can't help herself bc of her trauma.

I hardly ever watch reactions to BB or Forrest Gump anymore for exactly this reason, especially the latter. People not recognizing that almost everything Jenny does is a trauma response and she needed therapy bothers me. Probably because I see people be that dismissive in real life.

I think when you look at the the 4 main characters as a group, they really are all their own person and just so different from each other, so she really adds something to the show

D'Arcy really shows her acting variety in just this role alone, but for Manny you can see it across all his different roles. I haven't seen the Acolyte yet, but he was wonderful in "9 Perfect Strangers"

I truly underestimate his range sometimes because I see him in whatever heโs in, in a vacuum. From Parks and Rec, to Step Brothers, to this, to Party Down and now Severance (honestly Severance alone)โฆheโs incredibly underrated and incredibly good.

The relationship between Tahani and Eleanor is honestly my favorite friendship on the show. I love Adam Scott in this. This just made me instantly wish we had encouraged you to watch Severance before your plate was full. You absolutely HAVE to watch it, Iโd love to see your reaction. One of the best television shows in recent years, and season 2 finally comes out on January 17th. Maybe after you finish Hill House? (Not trying to be demanding, this is your channel, but it would be perfect for you. Would love to watch you enjoy its many amazing qualities!) Loving loving loving rewatching Good Place with you.
